New Scirocco, +questions

Hi guys! I finally got my Scirocco three days back, and I can already say that I am absolutely delighted with it. It's rising blue (amazing colour), 1.4 TSI DSG with Dynaudio sound system.
I have a few beginner questions though:
- Mileage: Not getting what I had expected despite driving like an aunty. Is this because the car is brand-new?
- Is there a difference between the "sport" button and the "sport" gear?
Hope some of you can help me with this.
Thanks.

Glad you've finally got it khiladi, in answer to your first question yes! you need to give it 500 miles or so before you will see the sort of mph etc you are expecting. its like asking you to run a marathon having literally just got out of bed, you certainly wouldn't be ready to put your best performance in until you had woken up properly, stretched out & moved about abit.

Hi as for the mileage it will get better as it loosens up my 170 TDi when new was giving me 48mpg and now averages 52mpg the only thing is im not that sure how accurate the trip computer is . I have changed my driving style to aunty style driving to get the most out of it as fuel is too bloody expensive and i drive 40,000 miles a year. The Sport button on the DSG just effects the gears allowing the car to change up and down quicker. The sport normal and comfort button for the suspension softens and hardens the suspension and i think it may change the steering settings as well, but that could just in my head.

Yep being brand new it will be a bit tight - put around 1500 miles on the clock and it should be better.
However don't expect to get the kind of mpg figures quoted in the book - that's a hypothetical maximum.

You speak for yourself trix. I'm like a coiled spring in the mornings - refreshed and ready for action

No it doesn't. It allows the engine to rev harder, i.e. get closer to the red line before changing up, and generally sit at higher cruising revs.

I've done about 1500 miles now
Lifetime average MPG is reading as 36.4
I do a mix of motorway and urban. Typically 35MPG average on trips.
Expect to average in the 20’s when doing lots of urban driving (in traffic etc.). On the flipside, long motorway trips should average in the 40's
I once
just hit 50mpg average thou...on a long downhill dual carriageway
A part of me is regretting not getting the diesel, but the TSI is great fun to drive

You should never regret choosing petrol over diesel... it's the right choice!!

I do 12 miles each way (all urban - Oldham - Salford) to work each day and get around 34-36 on the way in (7.30 am) and hm.. 24-26 on the way home (6.30pm) with some traffic.
My 160TSi is recording overall 28.6mpg over the first 3,000 miles, not catastrophic but if you're used to a VW 2.0 TDi fuel economy seeing the red light come on after 305 miles is a bit of a shock! (My Golf GT used to do 450+ on a 50 litre tank, and was nearly as fast)
