PRNDS of death?

Hi,

The other day my car was working fine, Then it wasn't. :(

The engine started, the first thing I noticed was that the A/C wasn't working. Then when I moved it into gear, it moved just a few meters, then stopped. PRNDS on the display started flashing, and the car refused to engage any gear.

An engineer from the dealership came with the computer thingy, took some diagnostics and came again the next day. He said that he needed to send the diagnostics to Germany to find out what is wrong.

Today they phoned me and said that the DSG gearbox has to be replaced! They were unable to explain to me what exactly is wrong with my car. They were also unable to explain to me what is the mysterious connection between the gearbox and the A/C.

I'm hoping someone can help me here, since I have a feeling that some minor electrical problem is being mis-diagnosed.

My car hasn't been chipped or modified, it's been treated well, and it's only got 18000 km on the clock.

i think the DSG problem has been discussed somewhere in the forum, sometime late last year i recall.

Someone had the same flashing lights and then the car was put on 'safe-mode'.

I remember because i read up on it whilst deciding whether to go for a DSG, or a manual Roc.

yeah thats right RW1.

it scares me to hear of these kinds of complaints, where its not really down to aggresive wear and tear. In Hassan's case its only 18k km!

my fingers are crossed ......

Hi,

Update: My car is being sent to the main service center in Cairo, where it is hoped that a new gearbox will return the car to the way it should be.

Meanwhile, I'm off to Mexico, to soothe my nerves in the refreshing waters of the Cenotes. If fortune smiles upon me, my car will be waiting when I return.

Had the same issue on mine earlier In the year, 3 times in first 20k even though my DSG was flashed to latest software. Had a new selector mechanism fitted, my problems so far.

Well, it's back, and it goes. They made me pay for transporting the car to & from Cairo, and it came back with some small scratches on the bottom of the front bumper (probably while being rolled on & off the transporter). For the scratches I demanded a VW Motorsports polo shirt, which I got :)

Otherwise, the car seems to go just fine, I get the familiar "person in passenger seat starts squirming" when I push the accelerator. The A/C is working too :)

According to the dealer, the gearbox was changed.
