Tried to book my car in for 2nd service yesterday and came up with some fixed price options. £220 for 2nd year service or £295 for 2 years (ie 2nd and 3rd year) servicing plus free MOT which will be due next year. Seems a no brainer just be aware offers are out there......... That said sure someone is going to top that now..... Let me know as not parted with any money! This was Citygate Watford.

Hello, has anyone had a 2nd year service recently (normal schedule)?
Mine is coming up at the end of next month and want to ensure I am getting good value. Last year (for my 1st service), I had quotes ranging from £125 to £220 for the same work
I would not be expecting to pay more than £150 to be honest, unless I have lost touch with reality!
Many thanks.

I've just booked mine in for its second service. I've been quoted £168 which is very reasonable!
I just need to add new wipers to that.

I have a plan on mine with the finance, 2 years free. So will be looking after that. £168 is very reasonable. Is the major service every 3 years with VW? I think it was like that with my Ford.

I've just booked mine in for its first service at the end of march, £130 odd for oil and filter change. I paid £70 odd @ awsome GTI for a oil change and flush, a pannel filter is less than £30 so VW are a little more expensive.
The reason im having it done @ VW this time I also have a minor warranty issue I want them to sort + I gues the VW stampon the first service can't hurt.
I am worried about these storys I hear of VW mechanics taking your car for "test" drives and their inabilty to understand that you don't want Igor to wash your Car with a dirty 5 year old sponge that he keeps in a sand bucket.
I will be making a note of the millage and sticking lots of Postit notes saying dont wash me in it lol.
It is worth checking what your local VW specialist would charge for the service imo.

Many thanks all, I will use your figure Kev of £168 as a guide!
Tried to request a service using the VW online form on their website but nobody has phoned me back to quote and confirm. Think I will phone, easier!

I don't think the online thing is working.
I'd done the same (worked a treat last year) but I hadn't had a confirmation for 5-6 days so I phoned. The woman I spoke to said I was the second person today to mention that so she's flagged it up for someone to look at. My online booking wasn't on their records so it was a good job I checked.

Thanks Kev, I have resorted to phoning now! Had 2 quotes this morning for 2nd service, one for £185.63 and the 2nd at £233! Although the £233 one said they would match my cheaper quote - funny that!
Not given up yet though, £168 is my target.

Well - I am booked in now at £185. Got another quote from another dealer of £229

Probably could get cheaper elsewhere but with the cost of fuel now, any saving likely to be cancelled out with the extra travel cost.

I paid just under £120 for my first service and just over £120 for my second. I asked about the cost of the third service and was quoted £195 (all from vw garage).

That is very good going Deacon, I see you have the 1.4 but I don't see that it would make that much difference. South Coast dealerships seem to be very pricey!

I agree, seems they all want around £175 for the first service - although it does depend if you have the long life service at around 18k miles or the shorter service.
I see the VW website does state that they will price match within 5 miles. Has anyone managed to price match and with whom?

Hi yellowplum,
Yes - I did manage a pricematch, and the dealer that they price matched from was 25 miles away! Then again, the dealer that price matched for me was the dealer I bought the car from, so possibly made a difference?

Probably I am not going to travel 150 miles to the dealer I bought the car from to service it.

Just had my first 12 month 10k service done for £138 at VW Redditch. Not too bad I guess.

Has anyone had the long life service? What did that cost them?

Should be minimal difference in cost as VW dealers now use longlife oil on all service regimes.

I was told it was more expensive at £175 locally and £170 from the dealer I purchased the car from, so it would be interesting to see what the difference actually is.
