Tall drivers

Post by tronski »

Hi all.

Thinking about upgrading to a Scirocco from a Leon but one of my concerns is over getting in and out of the car without banging my head every time.I'm 6'4 and when I sat in one at the dealership, I noticed that even with the seat dropped to as low as possible, it might be possible to clobber my head exciting the car.

I know it probably sounds like a daft question, but can any other tall drivers out there re-assure me that this isn't a problem?

Thanks
The Don

I'm 6'1. I had no issues sitting in the back seat, or in the driving seat.

I tried both, and while I wouldn't want to tour Europe sitting in the back, I didn't find any issue with the driver position.

I'm 6'2" and haven't had any issues. Sat in the back tonight and it was a bit cosy but I drive the car anyway! After all it is a coupe so will be lower. Go for it!

I'm 6'2" and I have occasionaly caught my head on the roof getting out of the Car. easily avoided if your paying attention :P
The Panno Sun Roof gives you extra head room.
My Sister has one with a Panno roof and her husband is at least as tall as you, he doesnt have any problems with it.

The door is low compared to other VWs I've driven. I smacked my head more than once when I first got it and I'm a relatively midgety 5'9. The other person I (infrequently!) let drive the car is 6'7", and he'll jump straight into my driving position and go, no problem, but then I drive long and low anyway. It really is just a case of getting used to ducking your head when you exit the car.

Seven months in and the only time I have an 'ow f*ck' moment with door meet head incidents now is when I'm wearing high heels. Only you can decide whether that's an issue you're going to have, or indeed own up to. ;)

I'm 6'6 and can drive the car comfortably.

I advise caution with the pano roof though. I test drove one with the pano roof and found that with my driving position, I could feel the edge of the recess on the back of my head. I have had NO problems with the standard roof.

As for getting in and out of the car, I find that when in a tight parking spot, lowering the door glass (with the remote key) allows me to lean into the space where the glass was, thus easing access.

Bigges problem I've found is not banging my head, it's getting my feet in, as the doors are so large, the gap at the bottom of the door can be quite narrow.

Wouldn't change it for the world, I love it!

Same here, but once you've done it twice you soon learn to adjust the way you get out.

I'm a mere 6 ft1" and have no issues whatsoever. At 6ft4" you should probably consider a berlingo!!

I'm 6'7" and I've got no problems with headroom or banging my head at all.

Getting out can be fun now it's a few inches lower though, good job I'm pretty agile for my size haha

6'2" and no issues (and I have the pano roof), though my missus who is only 5'6" clocked her head getting out the other morning. She was still drunk from the previous night mind you, which might have been the cause...

Lenght (or lack of) of the seat will be more of a problem than the height of the roof.

6ft 2 & half here no problems with head but do find it awkward for getting my size 12's in and out though, found my lowered Celica easier to get in and out of which surprised me but it mAy be easier if the Roc is lowered. My only other problem for the last while is severe back pain as I have been completely unable of late to find the right positioning of the seat and am currently off work and unable to even drive, so just wondering if anyone else has had back pain issues or struggles to find the optimum angle for the seat ?
The straighter I have the back of the seat the worse m y back gets which is probably not logical !

lower back pain with long driving periods but i guess expected, getting in and out is tricky in car parks so i tend to have to squeese in, then drive out of the slot to let my mates climb in. sometimes rubs on the plastic bit of the seat happen and the speakers with my big feet, all in all ive found it more differcult than i thought it was going to be

As said before, I'm 6'4" and found no problems on my test drive. I also have size 14 feet and again no problems but I only have one leg, so only one foot to get in the way. If the Scirocco seats are as comfortable as those in my current BMW, I'll be delighted!
