Scirocco Central

Hi, Im wondering if anyone is having any problems with their Rs or is it just mine.
I got mine back in March and its literally hit 5k miles last week but i have a list of problems longer then my arm that vw cant seem to fix and as a result im seriously thinking of chopping it in.
First of all the arm rest broke and now doesn't lock up (except when it wants to) Next was the passenger sun-visor that constantly rattles - however vw have confirmed its broken but 2 weeks later im still waiting for a replacement. Third, my windows only go up when they want and the same with the wing mirrors and sunroof (thankfully it hasn't got stuck open). The bottom grill on the passenger side pops out and doesn't actually fit correctly (vw have told me i should expect this for such a high performance/stiff car and basically its as good as its going to get and perhaps im being picky)
But.. most recently a knocking noise from the engine that has now been into vw to be supposedly fixed TWICE, when i picked it up the second time as soon as I turned it on I could hear it and the garage manager apologized etc and confirmed it hadn't been fixed and they haven't got a clue what it is, so now they are going to start taking the engine apart until they find it.

Is anyone suffering anything like this or is it just mine??

nope. mine is about to hit 10k miles. Just had its first service. It's done a few "outings" and been to Nurburgring and back no probs.

sorry to hear bout your problems,i had a 140 diesel chipped to 175, got rid of it 3wks ago,gruff noisy engine,v rattly release bearing at idle,plus a multitude of problems from new,[9800kms] when i sold it.probably the greatest pile of s--t i ever bought,not sorry to see the end of it.highly highly overated car.grossly overpriced also.

No problems with mine what so ever , mine just hit the 5k mark.

at 5 months you can still write to the dealer and VWG UK and formally reject the car, then they'll formally investigate etc etc.

I did it at 11months on an Alfa Romeo I'd had problems with since 6 weeks old and after some negotiation Fiat Uk replaced the car with a new one free of charge, quite an impressive result.

Has to be worth ago before just selling it mate...

Overall I am very very pleased with the R - excellent all rounder.

2 minor complaints which i need to get sorted - the airbag light has come on and the stitching on the drivers leather seat has come away - just in one place.

Apart from that absolutely perfect.

I thought the build quality for a VW wasn't the best hence got rid of mine, if I'm gonna have rattles I may aswell have a Lotus

hey spamdog your R has been bought by a friend on another forum. Gonna meet up with him in couple of weeks time. He's loving it so far tho and not mentioned any rattles etc.

It seems I'm not the only one....!
You'll be pleased to know I got the car back a few days ago and rattle seems to have gone. They've lined my fuel pipe with expandable foam and it seems to have done the trick. They replace the grill as it turned out to be faulty and touch wood its stayed in place so far. HOWEVER in fixing a few of my problems they've created a few more.... It goes in tuesday so the can respray the damage they've done to the front end.

I can honestly say I will never buy a vw again in my life! I've had 2 brand new vw in 3 years you'd have thought they'd have taken a little more care with a loyal customers car but no....

Well he did get the pimping number plate thrown in aswell!
Was gonna take it off but couldn't be bothered!

lol he actually likes it. meeting up with him on saturday.

my front left grill has come loose, seams it pops back in, i boot it up the autobahn and its out before i get back home. been in to 3 garages and they just pop it back in and shrug their shoulders, its out at the moment and has been for about a month now. id do it my self but who wants to bend down and put your grill back on every time u drive it. apart from that, pretty solid.

Sorry about the thread ressurection, I thought I'd mention that I saw your comments on the discussion following the autocar.co.uk test (small world huh? ) and I gotta say, given how enthusiastic you were about the R back then, I find it surprising that you went off it so soon Just how bad were those rattles anyway?

I bought the RB R that Spamdog mentions. I must say I can't hear any rattles, well happy with the car, much better than my MK5 ed30, that rattled like a Skeleton having a w**k in a biscuit tin!

I must also say that I am highly critical of rattles in a car too, i hate them! i have added a piece of foam to the inside B pillar to prevent the passenger seat belt buckle rattling when not in use, which happened very rarely.

One criticism is the standard of the Leather Vw use, or should I say plastic! It is shocking! When worn I will re-trim the seats.

Otherwise the car is great, i have fitted rear view camera, A2DP bluetooth and a few other bits too. Number plate will soon be up for sale.

I went from a 111R Lotus Elise, to a 2.0 Roc which was just plain boring after the Elise so thought the R would fulfill my appetite ...after about 6 months i traded it back in for an 240 Exige!

Nothing wrong with the roc R but if anyone thinks it's a fast car with good handling really should try a proper car! lol.
The roc R is pretty good at what it is designed for and as i have said plenty of times before it is an ok car but after driving something like the Lotus previously with grip levels that are out of this world, to move to something that has that lack of feeling through the steering like all modern cars seem to have nowadays it's just not the same.

I went with the Roc's as i needed something a bit more practical but missed the Lotus fun.
Soloution-Exige for the weekend and an old banger astra for the daily grind and fuel bills!

Certainly not dissing the Roc's, i kinda miss it a bit ...but only a bit!

bit of a ludicrous comparison. i know what you're saying regarding the lotus handling, they're obv very good. however there's simply no point comparing the two! the lotus is a completely different car. The Roc is after everything, a hatchback of sorts and would never be able to compete against a lotus for handling. so in all intents and purposes, yes the Roc does have good handling compared to everyday cars, which the lotus is not.
