I've just got myself a 2009 GT TDi and I'm wondering if its possible to fit chrome tips to the exhaust on the car.

If so, has anybody do it and can they recommend a manufacturer/part no to enable me to do this.

Found some good Chrome Tips on E-bay from the seller AToZDiscounts4You (seller has own auto shop ) . The pipes come in 60MM, 65MM, 70MM & 75MM Diameter. I have a 1.4 160 and the 60mm tips fitted nice and tight. Hope this helps.. ps.. Really fast delivery from the above seller.

Yes , Really easy to fit , each pipe has three self tapping screws and holds the tips very tightly . all done in about ten mins.

Thanks mate! I've ordered the 60mm too but I didn't measure the diameter of my tail pipe (I have the 1.4tsi 160ps) it fits well or should I go for the 65mm??

The 60mm fits very snugly on the tailpipe , when you get it push it right on until the tip of your new pipe hits the end of your existing pipe on your roc , with the two pipes on one will slightly stick out than the other just like your exhaust pipes now .

Ideally you want to go for a slash cut finish (like the exhaust itself) rather than the straight cut. Most trims are only straight cut.

Have you seen any slash cut ones that we can buy that fit . I bought a pair on e-bay that are slash cut but the tips are way too big and do not look good . ps are the GT tips slash cut....

I bought some 3" tips with three bolts on each pipe, but I am having trouble fitting them. If I push the tip in, nearly flush with the existing pipes, either the bolts appear too short to tighten, or they grip the tapered part of the exhaust and slide off. If I pull the tips further out there is not enough clearance for one of bolts. I am assuming the tip needs to be put on with the, what I assume is a drainage hole, at the bottom.

@ alanru - I got some from this guy Hkb5variant / Abalonepoon. He has an ebay shop and is selling sill plates via this site. They seem to be pretty good after 6 months + in use - no rusting etc. - and were a reasonable price.

@topicalkeith. They sound like the ones I got. Try removing the second locking nuts which will allow the bolts to screw in further and that should allow you to fix them in the righth position. You don't really need the lockinig nuts. I had the same problems as you initially with them slipping down the pipe if set back or not aligning properly if too far out. And when you've got one right its hard to get the second one aligned with it, also one of the bolts is then difficult to reach to tighten - so tighten that one first and then clamp up the trim after by adjusting the other two afterwards.
Yes the drain hole does go to the bottom - so that the slash cut ends marry up with the ends on the exhaust itself.

Thanks ZephyR. They are the same ones. I did think about doing what you, as it does make sense. Did you remove all the locking nuts? also I'm guessing the new exhaust tips should be be about 1/4" further out than the originals.
