Scirocco Central

Being a very proud owner of a white candy Scirocco and loving every minute of it i feel a little let down with the DSG box. It seems to want to be in 6th gear all the time and changes just short of 3 thousand revs in every gear. I thought maybe dropping it in to sports would fix it but that just revs the engine to the red limiter and then changes. When driving I like the revs to sit between 2 to 3 thousands revs (btw its a 170ps tdi) so that when I need to pass someone I have the power ready. At the moment it seems I have to work the box manually with the paddles in order to achieve a lively fun response I want. Has anyone got any suggestion on how to fix this or a code to program the box?

The Scirocco is a great car to drive just want to be able to enjoy it to its full

Btw it has had the new update to the box which has improved it a tad but not fully.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I found the same to some extent, the problem with D mode is it wants you to be as economical as possible hence the 6th, sport wants you to be , well sporty LOL, there doesnt seem to be anything in between , the option is to use the paddles like you are, Revo do a DSG map for Mk5 golf and i heard they were working on a map for the scirocco, it may even be out now, that might be worth a look, im not sure whether it will solve your issue as it will probably just make it more sporty LOL

Forgot to mention VCDS, if you have or know someone who has VCDS (vagcom) then it might be worth resetting the values of the DSG box, details of how to are below

Prerequisites:

* ATF Temperature 30...100 °C (86...210 °F), see Measuring Blocks, Group 019.
* Selector Lever in P
* Ignition ON
* Engine ON (Idling)
* Brake Pedal operated (hold for the whole procedure)
* Throttle Pedal not operated

NOTE: Be sure to perform the following steps in the sequence shown, followed by the defined test drive.

Special Procedures
Defined Test Drive

Suggested test drive after replacing the mechatronic or successful basic setting.

Prerequisites:

* ATF Temperature 30...100 °C (86...210 °F), see Measuring Blocks, Group 019.


Drive in Tiptronic Mode from stand still up to 6th Gear.
While doing that make sure to drive in Gears 3 or 5 for approx. 5 minutes and also in 4 or 6 for approx. 5 minutes.
The engine speed window for all gears is 1200 - 3500 RPM (for clutch calibration).
Perform one sharp braking followed by a full throttle acceleration (oil return check).
Evaluate creep and starting-off points.
Check for leaks.

NOTE: If the test drive cannot be performed in the recommended way or the necessary time, any remaining adaptations will be performed automatically during normal driving.

I know what you mean about the DSG in D mode, mine changes before 2k revs every time. Quite often when driving up a slight incline I find the box wanting to change up a gear when if I were driving a manual I'd be looking to drop a gear. Even just trying to catch up with the flow of traffic can be quite painful.

It's probably the only part of the car I'm not too keen on so far.

if you had to choose again would you go for manual rather than DSG?

That's a tricky one as i've not driven the 170 diesel in manual form. I'd probably want a test drive in both formats. Thing is though first time i'm stuck on the motorway crawling for miles in stop start traffic i'd be crying out for the automatic option!

I dunno i love the DSG just needs a few issues sorting out. The other problem i have is that the box changes gear in a corner that really pisses me off. Don't get me wrong when you want to relax and drive the in no rush the box is brill. Just could do with some vw boffin in germany sitting down and coming up with a remap that would give the car the sporty edge it deserves

We're working on the Revo DSG remap for the new boxes, I had my A3 DSG remapped and it made a hell of a difference, however the software in the Rocco's DSG is much better than the old A3 std software. I'll post when we have some news of the software update.

If you have gone from driving a manual to a DSG it does take some getting used too.

Ive had my current DSG 5 years and it took me some time to get used to balancing the throttle for the correct RPM and to give me the desired response.

I agree! It took me a month or two to really start to get a feel for using the dsg box. But now I wouldn't go back.

Also I think the system adjusts to your driving style so if its a bit quick to be hanging up the gears, I think a few aggressive drives would start to change how the box behaves.

It took me a while as well, hated it to start with, thought it was up in 6th far too quickly in D but Sport just not for everyday driving, and felt there should be something inbetween, Have now got used to balancing the throttle too and would not go back to a manual.
