The Story So Far...

Morning Folks,
Just thought I'd jot down a few comments on my experiences with my DSG Scirocco R so far, now that I've had a couple of decent runs out in it.
Because I still have my 2007 DSG R32, I suppose it's only natural to make some comparison between the implementation of DSG on both cars.
My first observation is when in Auto mode, it very quickly upshifts into 5th/6th gear when driving around town in 30 or 40mph areas. This can be a tad annoying because if I just ease away from a junction then slowly try to get some more power down, I'm finding that I either have to push the throttle down quite a way, or just manually drop a cog, in order to get the car down into 4th gear, so I can to get the car to pull away cleanly. By comparison the R32's V6 eases away from any junction in any gear.
After 6 years of driving 4WD normally aspirated R32's, I realise that it's going to take me a wee bit of time to get used to driving the turbocharged R. I'm just surprised at it's eagerness to get you into the high gears when driving at low speeds, which I find to be a bit of a nuisance. I've since started to run the car around town with the box in Manual mode, to avoid getting bogged down in high gears when negotiating any junctions. This is something I rarely have to do with the R32.
I've been experimenting with throttle travel in Auto mode to try and avoid the manual downshift, and sometimes you get it right, but sometimes it just takes off like a rocket, and you look like a bit of a boy racer!
I'm thinking that a nice option would be to have some switchable DSG programs to compliment the 3 DCC modes. This would allow you to remain in Auto and let you decide how quickly the car upshifts.
Anybody else noticing any quirkiness with the DSG gearbox? Or is it just my shabby driving technique?
Who knows this could be something that could be the subject of a future firmware upgrade?
Have a Nice Day!
