Hi Guys,

I am taking delivery today of my new car. Whoot.

Just a quick question and I could not really find it using the search in the forums. Is it possible that our South African specs on the RCD 510 differs from other counties?

I had a look in the Car in the stock yard on Saturday and could not see an Ipod connector or cable. There is an aux plug in the arm rest. but no MDI connector anywhere. How can I get my Ipod on this radio instead of using the aux plug and control it from the head unit?

Another quick questions is, if the head unit has the "Phone button" does it mean it works? or are they disabled when the function is not available but still there?

Any help will be appreciated.

the MDI connector is nothing to do with the radio spec it is completely separate, I am surprised if they have got no MDI connector anywhere though
regarding the phone button on the rcd510 if you don't have the bluetooth phone set up the phone button just mutes the radio.

Omega,

Did you actually get inside the car to have a look? The MDI connection is inside the armrest. You need to lift it up to access it. So if you just had a look through the window you wouldn't see it.

In South Africa the MDI cable doesn't come with the RCD510.
Its optional.

do they refer to it as something else awesum? I had a look on the VW SA site & can't say I noticed it in the options list.

Here's the installation underneath with the arm rest lifted out of the way, a USB connection being used.
