Too big

Hey guys! Before going on vacation I was looking at a second hand, candy white, rocco. 160hp, Acc, panorama sunroof, xenon, rns 510, GT-stuff, 18" +++

After alot of consideration I decided to go for this as my first car ever! So in 6 days I will drive it out of the dealer in my hometown!!

However I looked at the dimensions of the car and I was wondering if anyone else think that it feels big for city/parking-use? Also the groundclearance, I drive a fair amount on bad roads like gravel etc with rocks, so would the ground clearance be low enough to cause problems?

Also I had problems deciding if the sunroof looks good on the white rocco. I could also buy another one without the roof, but also with more mileage and alot less extraequipment. So I feel the sunroofed one gives a better value.
Any comments on the looks of the white rocco with sunroof?

Thx!

Hello and welcome on board

It is one of the criticisms I have of teh 'roc - for me I'd like it to be just a litle smaller (but then I've always liked little, quick cars). However, I dont think you'll find it a major problem - just take your time getting used to it and you'll be fine. The 'roc is truly a great car so I wouldn't let the size put you off.

As for the sunroof I'm not a fan myself but it sounds like the 'roc you can get with the roof is a better buy so it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me!

Red with the Sunroof can look good.

Personally feel white with pano roof really enhances the profile of the Roc, especially from the front by making it look more squat.

I agree with trix panno roof look best on a candy roc.(but it does work with other colours)

As for parking I'm finding it ridiculously easy to park (aside from finding a space that least likely to have someone open their door into it).
You have same drawback you do with any 3 door car the doors are alot long so narrow spaces will fit the car you just won't be able to get out.. :D

I'm going from a mondeo to the roc, it must be easier to park! I guess it depends on the previous size of car you're used to

Like others have already said, it's not so much the width of the car, but the width of the doors that makes ordinary parking spaces interesting. I always stick the car on the end of a row and just walk a bit further.

Haven't measured the doors yet, but when I went from a four door Passat to the three door Golf I measured the doors, and the Golf's were 8 inches wider than the Passat's. The Roc's doors feel even wider.

I'm still zipping through the same spaces in traffic that I'd have nipped through in the Golf, so if the car's wider it's not noticably so. EDIT: Dammit; I'm talking rubbish again; the Golf went through my parents' gated driveway with just one of the gates open; I either have to pull at least one of the wing mirrors in on the Roc, or get out the car and open the second gate, which is a pain in the arse at night-time in the middle of the pitch black Buckinghamshire countryside.

The Scirocco does definitely make parking interesting, the doors being so thick and long make tight spaces a near impossibility. What I find most annoying it parking it on it's own away from everyone and then returning to find someone has parked next to me, they might find getting in and out easy in their 5 door fiesta, but for me squeezing in and out of the scirocco in the space they've given me is a near impossibilty. So, some minor contortionist skills may be required from time to time with the Scirocco. It's worth it though :)

As for ground clearance, i've lowered mine around 80mm and I get around fine, I've only caught the underside of the car once, but that was unavoidable. The only thing I have to worry about is the square pyramid style speed bumps as I can't straddle those like I could at the standard ride height. THe standard ride height is ridicuously high for a "sports" car, I can't see how you'd ever have problems with clearance.

Ooh I see, so its mostly getting on and out of the car that would be a problem. I am mostly worried about the actualy fitting-of-car-in-parking, so sounds good ^^ How are the parkingsensors working?

Only 5 days now, I am so excited!

I have (rear) parking sensors on my 'Roc and they work fine - the radio volume cuts off when reverse is selected and you get a helpful set of beeps plus the screen display telling you how close (and which corner) you are. Some sensors get confused by things like railings or bollards, but so far, I've had no problems - previously, our Beetle and Touran sensors were very good and so far, so good with the 'Roc.
When you get too close for comfort, the system tends to sound a little hysterical, but that's no bad thing.

As for the door issue, why not try parking with your driver's door next to the driver's door on the other car, leaving as big a gap as possible? That way, if the other car stays as long as you do, you'll get in and out OK. If the other car goes, it's back to limbo lessons..... ;)

I've always had 2 / 3 door cars and I'm used to the larger sized doors. The Roc's doors are perhaps a bit heavier but not noticeably bigger than any of my previous cars.
Parking - well its not the size of the Roc that's challenging its the limited rearward visibility. But learning to use the wing mirrors along with the parking sensors makes it all pretty easy.
Ground clearance ? Not had any problems with speed bumps, ramps etc.

Ok, thanks for informing me =)

This model is 13 months old now and has 15000km. Has it been driven to pieces? Sorry if I seem ignorant, but this is my first car ever and I am a bit clueless about things like this.
The other rocco I looked at had 25000km and no ACC, roof, xenon, navi etc and was only 2000 pounds cheaper.

As for the size I think I will get along fine since i am used to my moms Saab 9-5 :D

We have a Viper Green with Pano Roof and we love it.

One thing that we have, that we think is vital, is the rear parking sensors.......

Good luck in finding the right Rocco for you...once you have one you will never regret it... :hyper: :hyper:

Infinidim 8)

PS... we were in Ireland the last couple of weeks and we had so many people walking round ours and taking pictures of it that we felt as if we were film stars..... :D :D

I went from a Toyota Aygo to a 'Roc, I find it easy to manouvre around town and easy to park although I agree entirely with everyone else by saying that parking sensors are an absolute must!

The performace of my 2.0 TSI 'roc is a little better than the old Aygo too :-)
