Scirocco Central

This bank holiday weekend my wife went past the car park stages and completed two five minute laps of public roads near where I live. She's a late starter learning to drive as my previous manual shift cars have really not been too fun for her to try and she never lasted more than a few weeks of practice.

On the 'Roc though car parks with the associated 3 point turns, reverse parking, lamp post dodging and so on are now fading away as she's really enjoying the automatic box.

I was bloody probably more nervous than she was, every parked car on the left was a threat that I felt I was too close too (keeping my mouth shut was hard), but in the end no issues at all and only one car got stressed with us.

Now thanks to the 'Roc and DSG my wife has a bit more driving freedom We just need to find a formal driving instructor for the bigger, scarier roads with an auto box

PS. L plates x 2 on the front bonnett look pretty cool I think the car gets more looks with plates than without

I wish my learner driver car had been a rocco. I was in an old square shaped Nissan Micra circa 1989 I bet a GT DSG is quite a difference. But the great thing about it is that it's a placid as you like in D and only really takes off when you prod it. Just what a new driver needs.

I'm not sure I'd trust a learner in my Roc. Especially as mine is without parking sensors!

I'm waiting for the day when my 15 year old nephew says hey uncle Kev can we have a driving lesson.

Brave man letting a learner drive your car!

When my son was born i opened 2 savings accounts which i pay into each month. Car account as i dont want him driving mine and a house deposit account as an incentive to move out!

We have/had a KA before the Scirocco R arrives. The mrs. is still learning, while she wont be learning in it, it will be an interesting first car! Strangely, Insurance is cheaper with her as a named learner then me on my own.... Weird!

Stupid isn;t it, putting my Mrs on my insurance dropped the premium quite a lot. Then becoming a dad dropped it even more

Brilliant - on both counts. I can see where I went wrong now

putting your spouse on the insurance means that the insurance company assumes they will be driving the car a percentage of the time therefore you won't be driving it all the time so lower risk, also putting a partner on (& I assume becoming a father) means you are less flighty therefore lower risk.

please could we get back on topic now.

Axis, good luck to your partner, its a shame her license will be restricted to auto boxes but at least she will have a brilliant car to drive round in

Dont forget auto 'boxes are nearly always more expensive than manual 'boxes
