tyre swopping

Hi Guys

I am due almost 2 new tyres however dont want to buy them just yet! I am therefor going to swop the fronts and rears. Is it just as straight forward as doing just that or are the tyres individually balanced for the front and rear???

Tyres are usually balanced for the wheel they are fitted to, not the axle position.

Rears put on the front sometimes make the steering "perculiar" as the tyres wear into the new running position.

Directionals have to stay on the same side. If they are, they will be marked on the side walls with direction of rotation indication.

Obviously adjust and check pressures.

Just one thing to add

Watch out in the rain if they are really low on tread

If you have better tyres on the front then you'll have more chance of losing the back end, which is harder to recover than the front

Tyre manufacturers always say you should put the best tyres on the back for this reason, but in the real world everyone puts them on the front for the obvious reason (on a FWD car that is)

I swapped mine a couple of weeks ago.Backs to fronts on same sides. Not just to put off spending money but to delay the inevitable damage that the tyre monkeys will inflict on my lovely Interlagos'.
I did notice a bit of "pull" on the steering under hard acceleration for a while but now it's just like new again.

I've always been advised best tyres on driven wheels so disagree with best tyres at back as load goes thro front wheels. Also bear in mind the tyres were balanced when new and full of tread.
10 or 20k in for sure they'll need rebalancing and as I did mine several months ago so I replace all 4 at once I can honestly say it has improved balance of car.
Also just had 4 Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics on Mrs car and boy what a dif, can't wait to do likewise on Rocco.......

rule is to have best tread on rear...as understeer is better than oversteer from a safety point of view.

even tho im on a maintenance plan that includes tyres, im swapping my tyres round at 5k miles to even them all out, then change all 4 in one go. saves having new tyres on one axle and old tyres on the other.

Never managed to get oversteer until got Revo'd!!!! ESP just can't keep up with it it seems, was very surprised when it happened but once used to it a lot of fun!

You seem to think you now get over steer since the car has been remapped?
LIft off overtseer maybe as you sh*t yourself with the undertseer and back off the power.




As for the tyres - Best tyres on the back, but fit them to the front first for a few hundred miles to scrub them in and then put them on the back. If you put them straight on the back it takes absolutely ages to get them scrubbed in properly.

i took my wheels off recently to clean the alloys, and did a swap while i was at it. Prob. no need as i have only done 2000 miles ish. but since i have all the wheels off, might as well.

since then, it felt ok with no vibration or any issues.

initially i did have this fear but since it feels ok, i might do this swop every time i clean / wax the alloys like once every 3-4 months.

Andy - understeer I can deal with and its a corner I'm well use to, back off is exactly what I didn't do, if anything I put too much power in the apex and then took wrong line, I've done a few miles on tracks and certainly know what I had and why!! Hey whatever, either way ESP was on and has caught previously on stupid manouveres, def seems to not keep up now.
