Are there any scirocco (prospective)owners out there that are mad enough to do the London to Brighton cycle ride on the 20th of June? Im been stupid enough to sign up to do it and have now got to keep peeling myself out of my 'roc for long enough to ride my bike :shake:

Monkeyman: I know a couple of people that have done the London to Brighton, and they indicate that its more like a charity walk than a bike ride, as there are just too many people doing it, but I'm sure you'll have fun. Just remember to save some energy for Beacon hill at the end of the 60 miles.

I'm a keen cyclist, but I am not doing that one - my brother is though.

I managed it :D !! just. In 7 and a half hours. Bloody hell it was hard but good fun. Im feeling it now though, very stiff and cant move too fast. I cant believe how many hold ups there was! Hats off to the many that didn't finish and those 4 that died on the ride. I don't think Ill do it again next year as their are far to many riders on too narrow lanes. I must of got hold up for up to an hour over the hole ride, Including 10 minutes just to cross the finish line. :grumpy:

Well done Monkeyman!

I have also recently ridden my first cycling sportive, 51 miles in 3hours 4mins. :-)
A sportive is a timed ride (not a race) around a route (that is not closed to cars) but is marked out with signs and has feed/drink stops. There is even rider backup on motor cycles patrolling the course.

The event I did in Newbury (Magnificat) had 51mile, 81mile and 127mile options, and as this one was my first, I opted for the easy route ;-) The fastest rider to complete the 127 mile option did it in 6hr8m :-0

If your interested here is a link to the sportive calandar, the entry fee is usually about £20-£30

but for the less serious riders here is the charity ride calandar
