VW offer a lifeshine product, its a wax and scotchguard. It costs about £500 which seems expensive. Has anyone had this done? Is it worth it?

you can do it for much much less!

1) go to your local supermarket/haberdashery & buy a large can or two of scotch guard for no more than £10 & buy yourself an autoglym/diamondbrite/or similar kit from ebay circa £40/£50 if that or just a pot of decent wax, pick a nice weekend & get on it

2) find a good local detailer & get them to do a new car prep for you.

both would work out plenty cheaper than lifeshine if you paid the full wack (they can be haggled on ) but you are at the mercy of the ability of the monkey who is assigned to apply it. (nice sum up from T&J here)

i was thinking about this not long ago. Having done a lot of research, i feel its enough to buy top notch products and do it yourself.

Being a new car and if it was prepped well, you would not need to do anything for a months or two. Washing it with wax friendly shampoo is enough.

Later on, you can do the full wax treatment to create a protective layer after a few months.

the only trouble is the weather, as i don;t have a garage.

My dealer done it for 500 ...but that was with the GAP insurance aswell!
You can do it cheaper but if your lazy like me then it was easier to pay someone and have the 10 year guarantee aswell.
It is a lot so haggle away!

2 cans of scotchguard (about £6 a can in John Lewis, down where all the household stuff is sold). Use 1 can on the seats and another on the carpets. Leave overnight and your car is Scotchguarded for £12. If you get any on the interior plastics via overspray, wipe it off straight away or i'll leave a white residue (like acetone attacked plastic). Works a treat.

Not impressed by Diamondbrite etc. Unless you're very lazy waxing every 2 months and polishing twice a year should keep the car gleaming.

It's worth having. But certainly not at that price. Don't pay a penny more than £200.

Mine was done by dealer as part of deal I did on a demonstrator, looks great and might improve resale value but I wouldn't pay £500 for it. Also got an Autuoglym kit with it- I do rate their products
