Heated Wing Mirrors

Hi,

In terms of the heated wing mirrors, is this an option you need to switch on or are they automatically turned on when cold?

I've heard that you need to select a folding setting with the knob, just wondered what the script is with the heating, is this another knob position?

Thanks In Advance

Yep, just another position round the clock on the door switch. Both manual only if you select the relevant position.

Yeah, turn the knob 180 degrees from the 0 position and they'll be on.

Have to admit though, I didn't even realise I had them until about 2 months went by!

Top right of the button.

To the left are the left, off and right options for moving the mirror around and, if you have it, bottom right is the fold position.

Thanks for the pic Kev and to everyone for answering.

Dunno why they never just put the mirror heaters on automatically when the rear window is put on!

Cheers.

Yeah, I don;t understand that either. I just leave mine in the on position all the time!

Same here.

My 10 year old puma had it exactly the way you suggest. Seems odd not to tie the two actions together.

Just in case there is any confusion - Kev's photo is of a left hand drive model. On RHD cars the setting positions are a mirror image, and L and R positions are switched as well.

In my crappy old Astra Sport hatch, the heated mirrors came on when you turned on the heated rear screen. A much better idea if you ask me. I hate where the switch is on the Scirocco, i'm always leaving mine on. They really didn't think about it....

Mine is always on, what's the big deal about having them on all the time?? I think that is good as I think they help to clear water and keep it off the mirror glass when it is raining. I rarely use my rear screen heater (only when it is frosty or the glass mists up).

Hi.

I've tried to not keep mine on all time now weather is getting a bit warmer.

Didn't realise that if you turn one more click past the heater icon the mirrors fold in!! Should have known that!

alas the whole mirror control thing must have come out of a 1985 Polo......it's such a massive step back when compared to my Seat Leon, where the mirrors folded using the remote and unfolded when you started the car again and the heaters were automatic with the rear screen.

Is that how the Roc is cheaper than the Golf GTi? or does the GTi also have such backward controls too?

When I picked mine up at the dealers he told me I had to have the A/C and/or the fan knob on in addition to the dial being turned on the door to make the heated mirrors come on...

That's for the windscreen and happens automatically on pressing the screen defrost (overrides the 3'C and below cut-off). Mirrors seem to work independently on the door panel rotary switch.

My MK5 GTI has the same controls (not sure about the MK6). I rarely use the heated mirrors and I remember reading on a GTI forum that they have no auto cut-off so the elements can burn out if left on all the time! The rear windscreen heater goes off automatically after about 10 minutes but the heated mirrors stay on until they are turned off manually as far as I know.

I did have an Alfa 147 and the mirrors were permanently heated (it was intended that way lol)
