Have just bought a TomTom XL for my new Roc when I get it in a few weeks time.
What it the best position to mount a Sat Nav in a Roc?
Can you get a decent mounting position that you can reach on the screen without obscuring vision or is it best to use something like a Brodit clip and mount over one of the vents?

personally i prefer the area near the front pillar on the driver side. a bit like the driver side equivalent of the lower tax disc position
i tend to wrap the cable around the steering column and the stalk.

+1 for the Brodit clip on the airvent. I haven't taken delivery of my roc yet, but this clip seems to be the best option out there so far. I personally don't like the satnav near the driver window ('cos they smash-and-grab in our country!) and prefer the mounting on the mid-window or the mid-dashboard - the Brodit looks like it'll do the job, and seems to fit to the dash really well.

Mine keeps falling off randomly, so I've just stuffed it in ashtray area (with the lid open). Works fine there!

You will get best signal reception if you place it next to the rear view mirror.
I prefer to have my TomTom 940 there, so it does not obscure the view of the road.
Changed to the RNS 510 for the bigger screen though

I didn;t order the smokes pack so my 740 is mounted down there. Keeps it out of the way and is nice and tidy. Notrailing wires etc and works perfectly, no issues with GPS reception.

I'll put in another vote for the Brodit Proclip. I've got one that holds my iPhone to the left of the RCD510 and it's really solid. Btw I use my phone as a sat-nav and haven't had an issue in this position.

I got a Garmin Sat Nav from my parents for Christmas "to use in my new car". I went and bought one of those weighted mounts for it that sit on the dash board but to be honest i've never used it. I think it takes up too much room and prefer just sticking the thing to my windscreen in the middle of the window as low as possible. i'll need to see if there's any way to mount it to an airvent as it's pretty far to reach to use the touchscreen, i need to lean quite far forward....may i've just got short arms!

Personally I stick mine over the Rev Counter with the sucker towards the top...
Whilst the rev counter is good its only a nice to have in my opinion...having the sat nav not on my wiindscreen is far more important...
Works well, good to check speed and direction at the same time

I bought one of those weighted dash board mats for my Sat Nav its sits just right. No need to worry about leaving the tell tale circles on the windscreen or spoiling the dash by adding magnetic discs. It just sits there and i can throw it in the boot without worrying about it moving about.
Highly recommended.

I have the adjustable Brodit holder for the Iphone and the brodit pro-clip, with this holder you can keep your Iphone case on , works well in this position for GPS signal
