hey all, can VW make a key for my car with the VIN number and all details of my car. not a fob but just a key to open the door.Reason being i was loading boot with stuff and keys fell in and ive lost spare key while moving house. RAC were out and tried a few things then wanted to smash window.

Any info if VW can do this would be appreciated

Not deadly certain Chelle, but they do carry other details against your Scirocco such as the wheel locknut key. I ordered one of those and they used the VIN.

Worth a call on Monday to the Service Advisor section.

yeah i agree but am pretty stuck. been told not to smash a front window as its a nightmare to change the windows and probs more expensive than getting a key. they must be able to get me a key made. even just to open the door. i dont need any part of the fob as once i open door ill be able to get keys from boot.

I'd have thought it would be best to smash the rear window that doesn't have the radio antenna in if you have to smash a window at all. A call to the deal would be the first thing on my mind though.

In South Africa all new VW's come with roadside assistance and as far as I know one of the things they provide is getting your keys out of your car. Does VW in the Uk not provide the same service?

Yes they do. They do it through the RAC but Chelle mentioned in the first post that they've already been out.

If VW can't make a key thn a decent locksmith may be able to get in it.

This is a daft design by VW. If VW made it so that all the doors unlocked when you popped the boot, and the onus was on you to lock the car again afterwards, you couldn't get locked out of your car.

I'm sure VW could make a new key from the VIN number. They give you a key number tag when you get the car (sometimes), but that number is kept electronically by them also. As long as you can prove you're the cars owner, i'm sure they could sort you out with a key (for somewhere in the region of £80+). It might just be easier to try and find your spare (I've just moved house too - can't find my V5 document to change addresses!).

I once borrowed a lock entry kit from a mechanic, it was rather scary it had a variety of tools and bent metal bars along with instructions on how to get in a lot of cars, problem is it worked on lifting the latch which modern cars dont have, maybe worth trying a few local garage though.

Oh, plus...If anything, maybe its worth smashing the windscreen if anything, then you get it replaced by insurance for nowt...

Windscreens are laminated so you'll have a hell of a job making a hole large enough to get through in order to unlock the door Insurers cover all glass breakage anyway not just windscreen

Chelle, I work for a VW dealer and also have a ROC....vw dealer can order key for any vw cars...they will ask you for the log book and any kind of ID.....it will take around 4 to 7 days to get here ( Jersey Island )....so in UK probably less......will cost around £105.00 blade and remote....the key will open the car BUT won't start the car until you code the key in to the car.....( the alarm will probably go off )...the coding has to be done at your dealeship.....and with additional price for that too :-/ hope this will help you.... :-)

sounds like gone in 60 seconds. remember the ordered the keys for the mercs using the vin

I hope Chelle is in by now, but surely its the serial number on the tabs that come with the keys that contain the info needed to create a new key.
Don't think breaking in thru a rear window would help as the doors would be deadlocked and wouldn't open using the handles in side. Need to get thru the driver's door to reach the boot release catch in Chelle's case.
