XDS-now as an option

I have checked the german configurator and there is an option to add XDS for both Scirocco and Golf now. I have ordered new Scirocco 2.0 TSI 210 (a that time there wasn't such option at my dealers) and now my dealer is saying I can't change the specification because the manufacter is already fixing the build date. Maybe it can be added aftermarket.

Don't go for the XDS, it's a modified ESP and it will make your brakes wear out much faster.
(will brake on the inside wheel)
If you intend to drive the car hard from time to time, the xds will take the fun out of it because
it will slow the inner wheel down too hard making the car slow down. The advantage of a slip diff is that you can go harder through the corners,
the xds will only try to mimick the function of a real slip diff.

I would very much doubt it would be possible (without huge expense at least) to retrofit XDS - I would have thought you would be much better off, both in terms of cost and performance, with having a normal mechanical LSD fitted (such as a Quaiffe).

Isn't the XDS just an upgrade for the ESP system? VW is charging 200€ for the XDS in Germany. I think it's like the hill hold assist, that's also an added function of the ESP system.
Does anyone here have a mechanical LSD installed? (Quaiffe or VWR ...)

According to the lastest Scirocco UK price list dated 01.01.10, the XDS is standard on the "R" but not on the other models and not available as a selectable option.

Here in Poland we don't have it in the pricelist yet. I and my friend who ordered Golf asked our dealer about XDS - he contacted with the importer or even the manufacter (i don't know exactly how it works) and informed us that it will be in the updated pricelist and it is possible to change the order for the Golf. The build procedure for the Scirocco has started and nothing can be done :/

I think it's only different ESP software, but it is possible that it comes with additional sensors or even hardware unit - we will see when the Golf will arrive.

I know how it works and think that it can do the nice job in sharp corners when you accelerate, will test it soon in my friends facelifted Leon Cupra and post some observations.

VWR is Quaiffe diff, i think alot of people are misguided that a lsd will turn you into a driving hero and get you out of trouble, i've done 500 plus miles in a diffed GTI in december, if you drove it like a tool it would spit you as off as its quite aggressive, learn how to feed it in and it will amaze you how quickly it will change direction and put the power down, it can be your best friend or enemy

on my wish list as putting power down out of low speed corners isn't the rocs greatest ability imho

yeh surely xds is just alteration to the esp which in itself is changed via the firmware right?
i think this because the new firmware (2680) says it has improvements to the stability program, see: http://www.my-gti.com/1769/volkswagen-r ... -2686-2688" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

either way, i bet it would be quite easy to retrofit as at worst its gonna be an ecu flash... at best you may even be able to get it in the next firmware revision and turn it on/off via vag-com :)

wishful thinking i know lol...

aaaaaaaaaaahhahahaha, you think stability improvements in some Nav software actually have something to do with the cars handling??

aaaaaaaaaahahahahaha

The Operating software stability for the Sat Nav, ie les slikely to crash etc not the f*cking car stability.

You actually think, that the Sat nav software has an effect on how the car handles?????

Jesus christ, some of the sh*t you read on here is just f*cking amazing!

Hi Pat,

The new firmware relates to the head unit known as the RNS 510 which is the head unit with built in sat nav rather than anything else so when it says stability improvements it means less issues likely to make the head unit crash rather than affecting any other part of the car.

It's shame some people can't explain that in a nicer way...

My friend told me XDS is available on all 2010 2.0TSI and R (comes standard).
He said he can bypass it with VCDS. It is only on one of the things that needs to be enabled.
He hasn't done it yet as a 2.0TSI hasn't come around him yet.

According to my vague memory, XDS is basically a more aggressive and smarter version of ESP.
Instead of preventing slip, it increases turn in speed with the control of electronic braking to each corner of the car.
Also, it controls the speed of each front tire to help increase turn in speed by increasing the speed of one wheel or the other (depending on which corner you take).
Doesn't sound like it should be on the paid options list at all. According to VW Hong Kong, XDS comes standard on Scirocco R. This could well be the reason for keeping a secret of this system.
