Insurance

Post by chr15 »

Who is everyone insured with on here? Preferrably the younger people as I am 23.

I was insured with HIC last year but coming upto renewal in 2 weeks they say they can't renew due to their underwriters changing there policy's. Im kind of screwed now as the next cheapest price is almost twice what I paid with HIC last year.

Must be mod friendly.

I'm not quite so young but Chris Knott and Greenlight were both excelent for me and very mod friendly.

Tim from Chris Knott couldn't help me unfortunately and reading on the Greenlight thread the maximum value is too high for my age.

Adrian Flux? They were quite expensive for me compared to the other two but maybe worth a try?

An alternative approach may to be buy a copy of a performance car magazine. See who is advertising and ring round those you haven't already tried, cos they expect to get business with owners of modified cars. eg. a magazine like Performance VW.

I couldn't find any mod friendly insurers for a decent price so I went with Admiral. got a decent price and they're not TOO bad for mods. I'm 24 btw.

I'm 25 now and have 3 years no claims now, i've noticed my premiums drop considerably over the last couple of years.

At the minute i drive an Audi A3 1.9 TDi. Insurance for that is £220.

When i was about your age i think i was about £350 for the same car.

I've had my own policy or almost 4 years now with Admiral as they have always been cheapest.

They have quoted me an extra £150 for the Scirocco from start of January to August which i dont think is too bad.

I've looked on Confused, Compare the Market etc. and search for insurance for when I'm due for renewal. By that stage I'll be 26 and hopefully have 4 years no claims....best price for that (2.0l Petrol GT) is £320 with More Than

If you can, add your parents to your insurance policy as named drivers, that will help reduce your premium.

Also a lot depends on where you keep the car at night, mines is kept in a residental carpark in aberdeen. A friend of mines moved from her parents place near Stirling (Garage/Driveway parking) to a flat in Glasgow where the car is parked on the street. Her insurance doubled from £300 a year to £600....a 1.6TDi Seat Ibiza with 5+ years no claims. :eyepop:

Keep searching and you'll get something reasonable

ADMIRAL will allow mods but don't cover the cost of replacing them. If you have a claim any modified parts will be replaced with standard manufacturers parts unless it's optional extras.

Always claim my mods(All one that I have)...I think replacing them is the least of your worries if you're involved in a serious accident.

+1 for Admiral. I can't comment on mods but I'm 19 and they were happy to cover me for a reasonable price.

Im waiting to hear back from Admiral as it appears I am banned with them  I had a policy with them 3 and a bit years ago but the guy I spoke to said there was no problems showing like me owing money or outstanding claims so he couldn't work out why. Waiting for someone to phone me back but it probably won't happen :grumpy: The price they gave me was quite good aswell.

Ive got 6 years no claims now and the car is garaged. I have never had this much trouble on any of my other cars. I have tried so many places and most are coming back with either ridiculous prices or nothing at all. The postcode isn't bad either so it makes no sense to me

Admiral/Elephant are crap if you're involved in an accident (regardless of fault). When my parked and unattended car was hit by a bus (100% liability for the bus), I was treated very shabbily. Their legal protection is there to protect their own interests and not the clients. They made a lot of money out of my claim, organising the hire of a bog standard Golf 1.9TDI for 7 weeks at £480 per week hire!

£450 policy with 8 years no claims + non fault accident fully paid for by the 3rd party = £850 renewal with no loss of no claims = bye bye Elephant!
2013 - Tornado Red MK7 Golf GTD on order
2011-2013 - Rising Blue 170GT
2009-2011 - Pewter Roc 140GT
2007-2009 - Tornado Red Golf 170TDI GT
2005-2007 - Black Pearl Golf 140TDI GT
2003-2005 - Black Pearl Polo 1.9TDI

I've got to disagree there with regards to Admiral.

About 3 years ago as lorry crossed lanes on a roundabout, I was on the inside and he was to the left of me. It was a Dutch lorry driver, left hand drive so he didn't see me and hit the back quarter of my Audi. The lorry driver drove off as well so I relied on the police to catch him after I was able to give a good description of the lorry, which they did about 30mins after it happened.

I phoned Admiral to report it and they said I would have to pay the excess initially but would chase up the other guys insurance company to accept liability. They eventually got it dealt with and I got my excess back and reinstated my no claims bonus.

Very pleased with the serice all round, police included
