The Frameless Doors. . . .

Post by Andy-GTI »

They are a right pain in the arse when its freezin weather!!!

Its absolutely freezin here in aberdeen today, the air temp is hovering around zero and the doors have failed to open a couple times for me this morning already.

You need to pour warm water on the bottom seal to free it up to allow the door to open.

I'm loathed to put de-icer on the car as its abou the nastiest thing you can put near rubber. . . . Although, if you're out and your de-icer is in the car you're screwed anyway :?

I never thought of that....

It's often takes a while before the electric windows 'unstick',maybe one of those suction handle things for carrying glass to give the poor little motor a helping hand.No good leaving it in the cabin though i suppose :D

Maybe we have to climb in through the tailgate.

Put the scraper and a bottle of water (shouldn't freeze - or add a little salt to it to stop it doing so) in the boot?
Then you can use those to clear the bottom couple of inches before you open the door to get the motor going.

You could treat the rubber seals with a little WD40 or silicon i think? its in the manual of my GTI, should stop the window sticking to the rubber in freezing conditions, but yeah, you'd think that they would have tested this.
