BROKEN DOWN!!! :(

There you go first time in 20 years I've broken down.

Had a miss-fire type feel in traffic, (always engage neutral in DSG when at lights) put into drive and it stalled. Restarted with Engine fault Workshop! showing and EPC light on rev counter and littering went at 1mph. restarted hesitantly at side of road so thought blip ok and off we went. Stopped at next lights and same thing..... oh yes did in style at Lower Grosvenor Place - one way system at Victoria and parked on double reds backing on to Buckingham Palaces Gardens. Wouldn't then fire up properly so turned off and froze!

Had just 7 police cars stop in the 3 hours it took the RAC to get me a flatbed even though I was causing mayhem, in a sensitive security area and the hazards also started stalling too - display went internally after 2 hours. Glade our company renewal came in yesterday as I aint paying it for next year for that service - Green Flag here we come!

Just working out how to upload the pics of the display (WHERE DO I LIST THEM TO GET A URL LINK?!)- oh and the flying Scirocco thanks to C&S using one of their parking type removal wagons - the DSG gave them some issues, they didn't want to push it.

All credit to Citygate VW in Watford (who closed 30min before we arrived)the very nice Service Receptionist stayed on for me and I flattered my eyelids at her to get a courtesy car booked to someone else tomorrow - something about they not all going to turn up with 8" of snow we are expecting tonight. I guess I'm better in a manual Polo than a DSG Rocco.

if you want to post lots then you need to set up a photobucket account or similar
or you can put up to 5 in a post by uploading from your computer (see upload attachment tab in the full editor [browse for image & upload] then click 'place in line')

Update:

Air flow reading in diagnostics incorrect due to....... K&N air filter!!
If that was limp mode then I'll be damned, normally you'll get 5-10mph out of limp mode?

Also asked if it has been chipped, even if you have a good relationship with your dealership (they prob don't care anyway) he said all the info has to be sent back to Milton Keynes and they CAN see if it has been chipped regardless of how. It will invalidate any warranty obviously - imagine even the airfilter would be close although not as drastic as chipping....

Glade I hadn't made that return call to Superchips! Should have had the bluefin Tuesday. Spooky. Will keep you guys posted, guess mixture of cold air, 3 weeks it had been parked up and 250 hard miles before sitting in London traffic for an hour....

Yep panel filter in OEM box. Well 6pm on friday without a second phone call there was no further news so we imagine it wasn't quite so simple! Except the K&N was in the passenger side footwell.
What do we reckon is it to go back in......... In the words of Jeremy Clarkson ' Oh yes!!!!!'

If MAF is "hot wire" type, generally OK as the wire burns off residues. But if its the "hot film" type MAF, they don't like it. Don't know which is fitted to the Sciroccos. I've abandoned using a K&N filter in more modern set-ups cos some MAFs are sensitive over time to the fine oil vapours that stick on the sensor. Usually gradually increasing rougher running is the symptom.

You can buy MAF cleaner and treat every 5k to 7.5K miles to keep the problem at bay. Don't use carb cleaner, wrong chemical. If you can't find a MAF cleaner, try using electrical contact cleaner from somewhere like Maplins but don't wipe the sensor, its delicate. Let the spray's jet clean it and leave to dry afterwards for an hour.

Have never heard of good things from aftermarket air filters on these engines, even the previous EA113's. OEM is best here. FWIW, even the guys that have the carbonio intakes here are taking them out. Im pretty happy with my OEM air stuff.

I have noticed response has improved since having car back, not quite so much torque but think main issue was broken throttle wire and this was just picked up whilst in. Prob is changing back will invalidate warranty if issue re-occurs!!
