Hi all

Just washed my Candy White Rocco (she was FILTHY!!!!), she's looking stunning again now

However, the past few times I have washed it, I have noticed there are some stubborn black and brown dots / spots on the paintwork, generally towards the bottom of the panels. These don't come off using my shampoo and wash mitt, but they do come off quite easily if I carefully use my fingernail (not ideal I know).

I'm guessing these are tar spots? At some point when the weather is nice and I have the time, I will clay the car and then wax her, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend some products to use to dissolve these marks to make washing them off easier? For those times when I wash the car but dont have time to clay it.

I've seen AutoGlym Intensive Tar Remover - Any good??

Yes ITR will work well. You need to allow the product to soak into the tar for a bit then wipe away. Another alternative is a clay bar.

easy to use and removes a lot grime. Even stuff the naked eye cannot see

The AutoGlym tar remover isn't the strongest you can get, however, if you've only got small spots and not too many of them, you shouldn't need anything much stronger anyway! It does the job well and it's good value for money

As some have already suggested, claying the car would help to get rid of them as well, which will help to add a real clarity to the paintwork, but in terms of just the tar spots alone, the tar remover will be more effective.

What do you Candy guy's use for removing tar spots?
I did'nt go for black,because they are a pig to keep clean But,OMG,Candy is no better!
Is there a product that will remove tar,but dous'nt strip all the polish off.
I find if the tar is'nt too bad a bit of Autoglym super resin will remove it.

Autosmart Tardis is the stuff! put a drop on a rag and wipe! There are sellers on ebay

Totally agree with Tardis always remembering to give it a good polish afterwards. Most of the large detailing companies do it as well.

I use Arrow Bit2 it works a treat

Autoglym tar remover from halfords works well for me.

Soak cloth generously, and now I just blitz the entire panel area to be sure to get it all off (lower part of panel usually)

This initial pass softens stuff up and go back over it all again to remove.

Clay bar does not work in my experience...
