The Clue is in the name Deep Black "Pearl" effect
. It's a pearlescent paint which is different to metalic and certainly not a flat paint hence the cost option. I am no expert but i think metallic paints tend to have a metal fleck of a single colour but pearl paints have more varied flecks in them so under the right light you can pick out gold / silver in the paint amongst other colours. So it is not flat black and technically similar to a metallic paint. I am sure some of the experts on the forum will offer a more technical explanation.
Really comes into it's own when the sun comes out.

I've pearlescent paint in the past that hasn't had metallic flakes in it. The simple answer to the question is "No it's not flat back. Yes it is a metallic style paint"
