Mine been outside these last 3 weeks in the pouring rain and is showing no condensation.
Easy to take off. Go in the boot. There is a small patch on the side wall up near the cargo hook. Pull the patch off and there is a white plastic "knob" with two wings. Undo it while holding the light unit on the outside of the car in place. Once the securing knob is out, the light unit slides on a short runner off the car rearwards. When there is enough clearance, reach in behind and disconnect the the connecting cable by squeezing the plug "ears" together and pulling the connection plug out. Unit is now free. Access is by releasing carefully the 6 securing clips and the centre bulb carrier part will come out.
At this point, the rear lens part is a sealed unit, so not sure you'll spot anything easily.
Dampness suggests a small seam split. Look mainly round the top area of the lens where the black plastic back joins the coloured lens parts.

They all do it as they are not sealed units, but are open to breathe.

I was getting an error for the left backing up light. Most of the times the lamp was ok despite the error on the screen.
The 1st time i went to the dealer they took off the lamp and spraided it with something and put it back in.
The 2nd time they decided to change the lamp carrier.Im w8ing for the part to arrive and go change it.
I'll let you know id that fixed the problem.
*Sorry for my English

just a quick update
condesation kept on returning so i booked the car into VW. The near side lamp was fine whereas the offside kept on misting up
the dealer replaced the whole lamp and the condesation has not returned ! ! !
