Repairing alloy wheels?

Hello all,

Exactly one week after taking delivery of my new Scirocco I've managed to scrap the front passenger side alloy wheel. Gutted!!!
Unfortunately it's scraped right through the lacquer, paint and primer into the alloy itself (see damage below).
Can anybody recommend any companies who do this kind of repair? Any idea of cost?

Many Thanks, Gary

Hi Gary

I did this about a month after delivery so I feel your pain!! It is gutting!!

See this thread which I started: http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... f=2&t=3239" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I used The Wheel Specialist and they did a superb job on the refurb (full refurb, not just a touch-up repair). I used the Fareham branch but they have a franchise in Birmingham if that is convenient for you?

Cost me £97 including VAT.

Good luck finding somewhere.

Another vote for "The Wheel Specialist". I had a set of 4 alloys refurbished last year at Leeds. The tyres are taken off and the wheel will be fully restored before being painted and then baked in a drying oven. It'll take them about a day to complete but worth it if you want a "proper" job doing.

This is the original job http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/p/4 ... aspx#1086d" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; the wheels are still immaculate

I have had an alloy refurbed (proper job of stripping it down without using shotblasting which can weaken the wheel) by Lepsons (lepsons.co.uk) absolutely fantastic job by an honest family run business, total cost of £65 + VAT which I don't think is too bad. Took 2 days as they use similar techniques as described above for The Wheel Specialist. Although locations are only Swindon, Gillingham and Birmingham. The finish is 99.99% the same as the factory finish on the alloys. The remaining 0.01% is probably my eyes playing tricks as I know it's been refurbed.

Anyone used one of these companies for a diamond polished wheel?

Doesn't matter to me now, as I don't have the car anymore, but on my mk4 golf, I had the Santa Monica wheels, which were all immaculate until i move out the way for an ambulance one day. I couldn't find anyone locally who could do it, but as vw wanted £350 for the wheel + potentially a new tyre if they couldn't get the old one off & on easy enough, it would have costed best part of £500 for 1 wheel.

As I said, it's not relevant to me now, but I would be interested anyway.

Pah that's nuthin. I did mine in 20 minutes!

Do any of these companies do it in the car park there and then instead of having to send the wheel away?

Update:

After lots of help from many people on the forum (especially Ryan Cooke), and lots of research, I've booked the car into Swansway Garage, Crewe, Cheshire.

http://www.swanswayarc.com/

They're charging me £50 + VAT for a full refurbishment of the alloy. Very reasonable! They're approved repairers for Audi, Seat, Skoda and VW. My contact there has put my mind at ease about matching the colour and making sure it's painted and lacquered back to original condition.

I shall post a pic up once it's completed (booked in Sat 28 Nov). A before and after jobby.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
Gary
