I-pod and 510 head unit

i cant always get my i pod to talk to my head unit sometimes it works fine other times i get fed up resetting the ipod, disconnecting, reconnecting the lead i just drive off then 10 minutes later the ipod kicks in and then just as soon as i pick a nice tune to rock along to it looses connection so frustrating cuz i never like listening to cds and i dont think it likes mp3 cds
