A few questions and advice please..

Hi again!
I placed a deposit on a used car yesterday which is actually a new car really as it only has 13miles on the clock. It is the exact spec that I have been looking for minus a few minor ones that I can live without (See my extras list in my profile). The price is £26,675.

I was wondering if you guys could answer the following questions below:

1. I am looking to part exchange my cherished high spec Golf MK5 GTI 05 plate with 126,000 miles on the clock!. They offered £5,500 for it. Do you think I can get their car cheaper, more for mine or try and get things thrown in?

2. The dealer also offered the following:
Cruise Control (which I use quite alot) for £185,
Gap / Assets Plus insurance for 3 years costing £349
Autoglym Paint and Leather protection for £299.
Are these worth getting and can I get a better price for these elsewhere?

3. I have scoured the forums and seen that some owners have had issues with Rusty parts and wiper smearing on their cars. Would these affect my car being a recently registered car? (The dealer said that my car should not be affected by this and he has not heard of any such problems)

4. I had a remap done to my Golf and found that it made the performance and economy much better. However, off the line, the wheelspin was a bit much for the FWD car. Has any one had their Scricco remapped and have the same experience with wheel spinning when you put your foot down in 1st and 2nd gear?

5. There is a digital speed readout on the dash computer which shows the speed in kilometres. Can this be changed to MPH?

6. Should I be taking it easy for the first 1000miles?

7. I am fitting my aftermarket audio equipment to the car and I noticed that the rear parking sensors are hooked up to the radio screen to show a visual closeness range (if that’s what you call it lol). If I change the headunit will I still get my beeps from the parking sensors?

There are a few more questions but I have forgotten them now!!
Those are the key ones anyway and would thank you in advance if you reply..

1 imo that is probably a fair price considering the high mileage
2 cruise control should not be more than £153 fitted (excert from scirocco catalogue: Cruise control pack, part number: 1K0 054 690 A £153.00)
gap insurance you can find at a more reasonable price on line if you feel you can require it (cira £150 i believe)
you can buy an autoglym kit (or similar eg diamonbrite) on ebay for alot less (£50-60) & do it yourself, leather protection - get a can or two of scotch guard & some leather food
3 the rusty boot bolts & smearing wipers were found more on the MY09 models (which yours is unlikely to be) if you are affected the boot bolts are being recalled gradually & the wipers you can go in & moan or sort yourself very cheaply
4 plenty have had their car remapped & are in a better position than me to answer...
5 no it can not it is a safety feature for if you drive on the continent (see http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... cond+speed)
6 personal choice i'm trying to with mine but my mind wanders occassionally :D http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... running+in
7 good question.... :?

hope this covers most & gives you some food for thought

We got our Autoglym for half that price in the end......and im guessing the dealer still made some money on that!!

As Trix said the GAP insurance can be had for ALOT less......just make sure your compairing like for like (back to invoice or replacement car)

dealers have more scope and room to manouvre by throwing in the dealer fit supplied bits, not 100% convinced on the autoglym myself as seems a licene to print money (I had smart guard thrown in on mine)

my car has run both bluefin and now revo (aroud 6,500 miles on each now), experience probably similar to the GTI (all be it more is being squeezed out the roc), strangely when Performance Car tried mine with the Revo they did comment on how well it actually puts the power down (the revo is slightly more aggressive than bluefin and has given my car a stay of execution as i prefer our mk5 still), back in stock mode now it does feel really unresponsive, yes you have to be careful in the wet and coming out of low speed corners

I agree to a point regarding the Autoglym.....but there is no denying the car is VERY easy to clean and we look after our cars anyway so topping the paintwork up with a decent wax isnt a problem. But another good plus point is the interior protection....ie....get a stain but cannot remove it Autoglym come and sort it out.....Just ask my parents...they got a stain on a seat of thier RS4 and Autoglym sorted it!! They were very pleased it was applied to thier car!

Paint protection is a rip off. You can acheive the same results for less than 50 quid and some elbow grease. You're paying mostly for labour with these products.

After trawling through some forums it seems like you are right!!

I notice you have had a remap and currently pushing 262bhp on your Scirocco, how does it handle with that power??

Thanks...
