Rear wiper cover

Does anyone else think that the rear wiper looks half finished. What I mean by this is the plastic cover which covers the blade only runs half way along the blade. Ever since I got the car this has been bugging me! Why couldnt they just run the cover all the way to the end of the blade like they do on the Audi A3, it looks so much neater and not like its falling to bits!

The Audi blade is much bigger so sadly the cover wouldnt fit, but I wonder if any othe VAG car has the same size wiper as the Scirocco that could maybe fit? I know that the other option is to take off the wiper, but I find it handy.

You're right now you mention it! I never noticed before.
It's a bit cheapskate really on VW's behalf, but then I guess that's why Audi's cost more than VW equivalents!

I agree, but how much can a bit of plastic cost. Its a shame, cos the Roc looks so nice generally.

i am still waiting for mine, but from what i can see, perhaps the reason is the A3 has a A shaped blade ( like the old type of front wiper blades) where the arches provided suspension movement.
The scirocco however, had a flat blade type where there is no moving parts inside the cover. The cover stop short to allow the strip to 'drop' and follow the contour.
these are just my uneducated observation/ speculation!

I had to replace the full wiper arm and cover after it got ripped off in a car wash (it is illegal to was your car in the street out here due to environmental laws in case of ground water contamination).
It was not the most substantial construction, I now use a car wash where they put a polythene bag over it and I’ve had no problems since.
As for the design it doesn’t really bother me one way or the other as long as I don’t have to buy another one I’m happy.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I finally found out why the rear wiper cover was designed as such.....
....its the outlet for the rear windcreen washer jet.
