New 2Zone a/c unit

Post by Gary_Monkey »

Can anybody confirm, not speculate, whether VW intend to put this unit in all Scirocco's from build week 45?
New 2Zone Climate Control unit.jpg
If they are then I'm seriously considering calling my dealer and asking him to put my confirmed build week back from 43 to 45.

Is this wise or could I end up pushing my car's production back even further (possibly back to next year.. gulp).

Before some of you say I'm mad consider this. The current unit has been in use for at least 6 years (it's getting on a bit and was designed to fit in with an older interior design template i.e. Golf mk5 and EOS). The new unit works in combination with the RCD 510 radio unit perfectly. The way graphics work with the screen looks great (IMHO) and I feel it fits better with the MY2010 updates (i.e. the new steering wheel and dials). I my view VW should have done this from the very start of Scirocco production (but due to cost cutting they didn't).

Anybody have an opinion?

Many thanks in advance as it's really, really doing my head in!

I don't have either as my 1.4 just has the standard A/C but I think the, potentially, new one is much worse looking than the original one.

I think the new one looks more modern, but looking at the smaller size of the buttons and the temperature display, I must say the old one is probably easier to use, and doesn't have have empty places where it looks like buttons should be!

As for getting the build date pushed back, I'm not entirely sure that's going to be possible. Afterall, on what grounds would you argue it? - You did sign to get the pre Week 45 spec afterall? I suppose the remote possibility would be if they could move someone forward into your build slot - but who in the know would want to do that?

Good luck with it though, and let us know how you get on!

I agree with you gary_monkey, that they should have put all the "My2010" options since the beginning of the launching (aka new ac, new steering wheel and new engine for 2.0 tsi's) but hell what can you do. Anyway about the new ac unit, i recall it only comes with the scirocco r. Btw the picture that you put up with the new climate zone isnt from a scirocco, so my guess is that it wont come in the 2.0 tsi's as standard, but maybe as an option  .

I second that Deacon. The new one looks too japanese, a bit cheap for me   . I wish vw just worked harder on that unit . I mean they do own: porche lamb bentley skoda seat buggati, so they dont have an excuse not to be "up to date". So why couldnt they make something more original, modern or just something nicer than that.
All in all i beleive that vw should have done like the new renault.
The ac unit is just plane amazing   : Image

Hi,

I've moved mine back to week 45, I think the new console looks much more modern, fresh and up to date. The other one has far too much sliver. It's just so last year!!

Its all about personal taste and I like the possible new one. Role on October then the new updates (if any other than the 210 engine) are confirmed!!

God I feel kid on the build up to Christmas!!

I think they're definitely giving all cars the common part, maybe they need to hire better designers???
Btw, the Climate control out of the latest Skoda (does it look familiar? :) )...

The Megane ones do look better than both VW ones. Though I personally prefer the BMW ones, which have a good look and feel to them.

Gary

I have just heard back from my dealer who has told me absolutely nothing has been said or even hinted at about any more spec changes apart from then engine. Considering the size of the group his dealership is part of if there was anything I would expect him to know so I think categorically its not happening in the uk.

S

oh & I will say it; you are mad to consider this!

In a "Production Build Confirmed" status, I think technically it be classed as a cancelled order with the dealer and you will go to the back of the queue next March with a new order. The only way it could be done is if the dealer has another allocation available through cancellation or an order was still as at "Factory Order" status which could be altered. Given there are only 8 weeks this side of year end, it's a tight squeeze to beat the VAT rise. Factory is shutdown end of week 49.

I see Rhino_horn has done it, Gaz, you need to investigate the detail of where his order was and dealership allocations. They can sell the cars at the moment and the dealer may have had the options to swap things around.

On the point of the new AirCon, the more I read the statements about all in the "Wk45 Changes", the more it feels like the changes are for the Scirocco R (except the engine which was not in one listed coming out of Germany).

The announcements don't quite hang together for me for the non "R" models. I think a lot of the items like keyless start, new aircon controls, "Rear View" camera fitted, paint colours, leather shade, 19" Black Luganos and Piano Black interior trims lead to being the exclusivity of the Scirocco R release. Which may be why UK dealers are saying nothing. By now they should have been told or they could be facing customers with a car they didn't order.

I agree, nothing has been confirmed to me either (haven't been given a build week either just yet but it's supposed to be this year). Noone has confirmed the changes other than the engine, so the rest is just conjecture at present. Until a confirmation comes from VW none of us know truely what is happening after week 45

Thanks for all your feedback guys (and girls) you know who you are :D

After all I've read you'll be glad to know I'm leaving my order well alone. Don't want to risk my order being cancelled and re-allocated to next year for the sake of a bogus a/c unit. (Plus I wanted to get all your opinions on the newly designed a/c unit which will come eventually. It provoked quite a reaction.)

I, like others, am now convinced that it's just the 210bhp 2.0l TSI engine that's scheduled for BW45. I think all the other stuff is destined for the "R" edition, for cars destined for the continent or as an optional extra.

Cheers all
Gaz
