Best way to sell my current car?

Hi All

Just thought I'd ask which is the most successful channel for selling used cars. What has worked well for you guys? My last two cars have been part ex so I'm a bit out of practice.

Any advice welcome.

Oh yeah, just out of interest, I'm trying to sell a 55 plate Golf 2.0 GT TDI, 40,000 miles with FSH (garaged and in really good condition particularly the interior - no kids you see).

Regards
Gaz

Autotrader worked very well for me.

Get yourself a temporary alias email address where you can direct all enquiries too and then scrap it when the car is sold.
I came across a few people trying to scam me but you can usually tell them a mile off.
Anyway there is plenty of advice on the Autotrader website.

As trix said, Pistonheads might be the place if your car is a bit special.

Thanks Nicp & Trix,

There is nothing special (read modified, lowered or pimped) about my current car, it's just a regular, Golf 2.0 GT TDI that I need to sell in order to finance my forthcoming Scirocco.

Do you think Pistonheads is the right place?? I don't want to embarass myself with selling a 'normal' car on a specialist website ;)

Is Autotrader the only other option?

I was looking at flogging it to http://www.webuyanycar.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They're offering me £8,425 which I don't think is too bad.

Cheers

webuyanycar prices are usually low - is it not worth p/xing with VW for the Scirocco - I'm sure they'd give more than webuyanycar or any other companies of that ilk.

Deacon,
I will try my VW dealer too. I just don't have a great relationship with them because I'm always moaning at them about when the hell they're gonna give me a build week for my new roc ;)

i tend to use parkers guide as my price guide of choice which says...
Original Price £17,320
Franchised Dealer £10,350
Independent Dealer £9,980
Private Good £9,150
Private Poor £7,295
Part Exchange £8,040
(have based it on being 2005/3 door/manual as 2006/5 door would most likely increase the value)
we buy any car do seem to knock people down on what they initially advise but might be worth a go & see what they say once they see it in the flesh.

It's worth keeping in mind that webuyanycar.com will have loads of reasons why they will reduce the price on the day you take it to them. They have a list of defects and a price next to each and use this to reduce the price, so you are unlikely to get 100% of what they offer online.
