Bottle of oil?

When I collected my car last week I asked my dealer if there should have been a bottle of oil in the car for top ups. He said no. If I wanted one I'd have to go buy some, is this normal or have people been given a bottle as part of the deal? I got a bloody good deal on the car and the salesman put mudflaps and mats in, and never charged me, so I dont want to argue, just wondered if I should have got a bottle or not, or if its a dealer decision. :?

I've never been given a bottle of oil for any of the new cars I've bought.
I have been given a bottle of champagne once and a bunch of flowers another time - if that helps.

Handy for when your car runs low on flowers I suppose.

I got a bottle of oil and a bottle of something else with mine (can't remember what the second one was and am too lazy to go and look in the garage at the minute!)

The new Rocs have "Longlife" oil in them from the factory. Provided it hasn't been changed then you should stick to that and not mix your oils.

Definitely dealer decision!

Previous 'freebies':-

Puma - an umbrella
BMW - a bottle of champagne, key rings, full tank of petrol
Golf - diesel engine oil (which I never used actually), plus cleaning kit (never used either)
BMW - keyrings
BMW - more keyrings
BMW - more keyrings, plus an M-Sport key ring
Scirocco - Keyrings, Umbrella, London A-Z, Box of chocolates but no bottle of oil

Never had flowers though...

I got the free bottle of oil and screen wash - car had a half tank, so he wrote me a £30 petrol slip which I used to fill up at the nearest Shell.

Free premium mats for front only.

Retro fit Cruise, Sills and Alu pedals were all fitted for free I just had to pay the price for parts.

I really didn't have time to negotiate during ordering as I bought their demo before it was even on a ship heading for the UK - plus I think he was cool with me as I drove from Edinburgh to Crewe to buy the car.

Have a nose around this site as I'm sure there have been plenty of posts on this subject.
Its 504 for my petrol 2.0. Please check the manual for your engine spec etc
Never just use what others say or you`ll damage your engine. :)

Jacktherat wrote:It's 507.00 for TDI engines with Long Life regime.

The question came from a TDI owner after all.

Castrol Edge 5W-30 is both 504.00 and 507.00 approved and is for petrol and diesel engines.

I think VW have finally come to their senses and tried to reduce the oil types required - used to be silly in the past going through the manual trying to work out what you required. For the TDI it's now 507.00 whether on longlife service or not.

Ha, I got my bottle of oil. Had the car at the dealers yesterday cos the horn button on the steering wheel doesnt work, apparently something in the wheel is faulty, so I'm getting a new steering wheel and airbag unit. Anyway, I was talking to the technician after and was asking about oil, and he went into the garage and came out with a bottle of oil and the carrybag thing it comes in, then said chuck that in your boot and apologised for the faulty wheel! Bonus.
