Deactivating
Hold the indicator stalk in towards you and down (LH indicator and headlamp flash) and then switch the ignition on for three seconds until a gong sounds and the indicator function pauses briefly. Now turn the ignition off and on.

Reactivating
Hold the indicator stalk in towards you and up (RH indicator and headlamp flash) and then switch the ignition on for three seconds until a gong sounds and the indicator function pauses briefly. Now turn the ignition off and on.

Doesn't seen to actually work though. As far as I know you need VAGCOM action to turn them off.

Worked on my 09My with Xenons  did it a couple of months ago. Important info missing from the handbook is that the master headlight switch needs to be in the off position to change the setting.
