Scirocco Central

Morning all
My 2009 VW Scirocco has the TPMS light on my dashboard is stuck on, even though all my tyres are properly inflated. I've tried using the reset button in the glove box, but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

Has anyone else encountered a similar issue? If so, could you please share any insights on how to resolve it? I've read the manual, and it seems like the reset button should work, but for some reason, it's not helping in my case.

Additionally, if it is fault I'm wondering if it's possible to completely turn off the TPMS system in the Scirocco so the light goes off?

Does having the TPMS light on constantly affect the vehicle's chances of passing the MOT? I want to ensure that my Scirocco passes the upcoming not.

In theory In terms of mot it will fail if it can’t be reset.
An MOT tester will not check your tyre pressure so may assume it is indicating a low pressure and give you an advisory.
Yes it can be coded out but any car produced if memory serves me correctly after 2013 must have a system to detect low tyre pressure.
Have you had any tyres fitted recently? Potentially a sensor could have been damaged during tyre fitting
Otherwise one of the sensors may have failed. Get the codes read and may give a little more information.

TPMS system on the Scirocco utilises the wheel speed sensors to detect a pressure drop on one or more of the tyres. If a sensor had failed it would also flag up an ABS / ESP fault.

If the reset button is in the glovebox these are known to become loose meaning the system cannot be reset. Check connections to the switch. If the reset switch is in the centre console, check the connections to it. The switch connects directly to the ABS controller. Also make sure you hold the button for a good fews seconds and you should hear a beep and the light go out, if working correctly.

Did you get a fix on this? Im having the same issue but pretty sure its the button thats broken. How do you get the button out/check connections?

Not too sure, but I had a Quick Look on mine, there’s some screws (3 torx across the top of the glove box and maybe 2 either side at the bottom) that may allow you to remove the glove box and allow access to the button as it doesn’t seem to be a pop out type and my fingers aren’t long enough or the correct shape to reach it enough to press it out from behind
Cuprabob is usually pretty good with advice regarding this button so he may be able to point you in a better direction of this doesn’t work

It seems a bit overkill to take the whole glovebox out, but that maybe the way to get at it, il look into it thanks. Im tempted to get a screwdriver behind it and see if it pops out, its broken anyway so nothing to lose i guess!

All that will happen if you try to pry out with a screwdriver is the top of the switch will pop off, you need to get to the back of the switch mate. Tbh dropping the glove box isn’t a big deal, a few screws and it should pull down enough for you to access the back of the switch.

Any news on this? I just realised I have the same issue. My button has no resistance and is just “floppy”.

I’m not sure if the person who was trying to gain access to theirs ever did, or they just sorted it and didn’t post on here.
From what I can see on mine as above to take glove box out and physically look at the switch, unless you are a contortionist and can get your hand around far enough through the small hole to push it out from behind!

Sorry for the late update. I finally got around to replacing the button.

As mentioned, I had to remove the glove box. There are plenty of videos online to guide you. I removed the six visible screws around the glove box, the hidden one under the central section beneath the temperature controls, and also removed the door side panel. Once I did this, I slid the whole thing out and found the button had fallen apart. I quickly swapped it with a £6 eBay button from China, and it worked perfectly! The trickiest part was getting the glove box back in place.

Unfortunately, I did this because the Scirocco is ready to sell and will be going this week. It’s time for something bigger, and my new Cupra is being delivered tomorrow.
