EA113 CDLK Timing belt or chain?

Hello all,
First post in this great forum, and I admit maybe a silly one.
I was looking at this
https://timingbeltorchain.net/volkswage ... Am_7moIw8Q and it states my 2017 Scirocco R with the CDLKxx engine has a timing chain.
Without taking off some covers in the engine bay, is it a chain? I thought all the EA113s were belt - obviously I'm wrong.
Can someone help with advice please regarding the CDLK specs?
Thanks.

Just to add, only just acquired the car and it is a '17 on 19k miles so I'm guessing the belts will need changing at the 5yr mark, if indeed it is a belt.

The EA113 has a timing belt and VW UK recommend it be changed at 5 years irrespective of mileage.
I don't know why the information on that link implies that it's a chain. Maybe they got confused and thought they fitted the EA888 to the face-lift Scirocco R, which they didn't but saying that it still sas EA113???

Thanks Cuprabob,
Yeah maybe just a typo on that link?
I'll get it booked in for a belt, pump, tensioner etc. change asap.
Cheers.

Why is this irrespective of mileage? I was always under the impression that chains/belts etc was based on mileage done, rather than time. Certainly it would last longer than average miles after the 5 years.....

As I said the 5 years is a VW UK recommendation however if you check the maintenance schedule in the service booklet that comes with the car, it only refers to mileage. You could be cynical and think it was a revenue stream for VW UK. Link to VW UK recommendation;

You pays your money, you takes your chance.

Virtually every single car with belt driven camshafts will state mileage or age, whichever comes first.
Remember it's a fibre and rubber belt - it deteriorates with age and use, just like any other moving, flexible, rubber part.

Thanks chaps - appreciate the replies. I'm due to pick mine up next Wed and its a 2018 with 25k on the clock. After a previous bad experience with Land Rover, I'm just now very sceptical when they say they say they will check it during preparation and if its due a change they'll do it. I guess that's the risk we all take with buying second hand cars

Be careful with statements like "check the timing belt" - you really cannot properly inspect a timing belt whilst it is on the car (there's no way you can visually inspect every tooth on the belt). It either needs changing due to the schedule (age/mileage) or it doesn't.

I'd say it needs a belt change at 5 years, or should have had one done.

they've assured me, in writing, if it hasn't been done already, it'll be done before i pick it up on Wednesday

The EA113 CDLK (facelift Scirocco R) has a cam chain and an auxiliary belt. The EA113 CDLA (pre-facelift) has a cam belt.
The 2017 Scirocco R has a cam chain.

You're absolutely right. Timing belts typically require scheduled replacement based on mileage or age rather than visual inspection. Thanks for the clarification! Learnt the hard way.
