Scirocco prices around the world
in view of our OT in the Headlights thread in the tech forum, thought i'd start a new thread so u UK guys can know how lucky u are that u pay only a fraction of the price that some of us abroad pay for our Rocs. Feel free to post prices from different parts of the UK too...
Re: Scirocco prices around the world
Thanks Rimshot
Out of the previous posts we have....
Istanbul, Turkey (Skyblues) the basic 1.4 TSI cost 29k euros here...thats almost 27k GBP!
Singapore (Rimshot) our standard spec 1.4TSI (DSG, leather, locally fitted parking sensors, 18" interlagos, WITHOUT DCC) costs 99kSGD or 41.6k GBP after tax
Denmark (Retboell) A std. spec. 1,4 TSI with DSG (cloth upholstry, 17" wheels, no parking sensors or DCC) is 399.000 DKK which is 53.600 Euro or 46.500 GBP - thanks to 180% tax
this is one serious fight! can anyone do better?

Re: Scirocco prices around the world
If you really want an accurate/fair comparison, all the details of a specs need to be listed. A standard roc in the UK is not the same as a standard one in Holland, or Belgium, or Germany. Also, prices are usually scaled to expected product volume and population income of the destination country (just have a look at VW prices in the US compared to the UK).
And the wait continues...

In South Africa the 2.0 TSi DSG is R336500 which is 26369 pounds
The car does not come with DCC or the RCD-510 but does come with Cruise Control and Multifunction Steering Wheel

Re: Scirocco prices around the world
Looks like mine was very cheap compared to what I'm seeing here
Guess I should really be a happy puppy with my deal
I've actually bought at a very good moment in time with reasonable discount.
The price OTR for the car with options that you can see on the right was under 17.3k GBP in March
However, with today's exchange rate it would already be around 20k + they've gone up about 10% since Feb/March so I guess the deal for today would have to be closed at around 22k.
The asian or North EU prices are hopeless Seriously feel sorry for you guys :/
If I had such taxes as Denmark I'd flippin move out to some other country the 2nd day straight after realizing what the price of the Roc is

Re: Scirocco prices around the world
So RimShot, how much of the 99k SGD is the Certificate of Entitlement (if any)?
Also, how much do you have to shell out for the install of the ERP unit?
Rimshot can correct me if I'm wrong, but the COE is the piece of paper that allows you to buy a new car and put it on the road. The number is limited, and they are sold in auction a couple of times a month. It's an effective way of limiting the number of new cars on the road each year.
Update:Thinking about S'pore's made me hungry for some chill crab

Re: Scirocco prices around the world
Yeah, i was gonna explain about the Certificate of Entitilement (COE)
You are correct, the COE is a piece of paper that allows you to register a new car in Singapore. There are 5 different categories, Cars under 1600cc, Cars above 1600cc, Motorcycles, Good Vehicles and an Open Category. The COEs are obtained on a bidding system, with bidding taking place twice a month. The number of COEs available at each bidding is based on the predicted number of vehicle deregistrations for the same period or something to that effect.
COE prices therefore can be pretty volatile. Current prices for below 1600cc is about 15k SGD, and Above 1600c is 16k. but basically the price can range anywhere from $1 to $100000000000000 ... haha...
As for the ERP unit, we don't have to pay for it, installation cost is factored in by the dealer. For those who don't know, the ERP unit is a in-vehicle little machine that debits money from a prepaid card each time u pass through a toll area, or in a carpark.
Ahhh.. chili crab..indeed a hot favourite with many visitors to our little country.. do u come here often?

Re: Scirocco prices around the world
I can't really add much to this because I'm in the fortunate situation that I qualify for tax free cars and fuel (€0.63 l) so it will slew the figures a fare bit.
If I remember correctly I paid a little under 19k GBP for my UK specification car (including options) so it must have been around €22k at the time of purchase (April 2009).
