Recommend me a headunit

Okay, so I have the RNS510 nav unit in my 09 Roc. I really want DAB, Android Auto, ideally with a rear usb cable so I can plug my phone in the glovebox. But there seems to be quite a few options out there for plug and play.

The RCD330 plus look interesting and OEM, but it’s expensive for second hand once you add in post and customs from China.

Can anybody recommend me a decent subtle looking unit that fits (with/without fascia depending on solution), so I can bring my car up to the 21st century. Links to products wild also be extremely helpful too.

Dabbled with an RCD330 Plus. Features were good, but the front facing USB port and sub-standard amp on the HU made me switch back ultimately.

Sound quality on the 510 was much better.

That’s what’s put me off the 330 too. Front facing USB. Seen a mod where you can solder in another cable but seems like a lot of trouble for what you’re saying is not great sound.

At the moment I have a 12v Bluetooth transmitter linked to my phone wirelessly and hardwired to the aux port, but it’s not ideal.

Yeah the fix is easy enough to re-route the cable, probably half an hour's work if you're proficient with a soldering iron. It's still fussy about what cables you use though, the knock off VW USB ports on Amazon don't work for example. So it's difficult/expensive to keep things looking OEM (relatively speaking anyway).

If I were to do it again, I'd probably get a double DIN and a decent fascia/surround or get something like the thing linked below and just use the phone for Android Auto/Navigation.

Think you'll still need a decent DAB aerial to go with that, but you should be able to get a nice clean install.

Thanks Scruffy. I’m also coming to that conclusion. So long as it’s clean and matches the interior lines I’d be happy with non-oem.

I have this android unit
I could not be happier with this unit, the sound quality is much better than my old rns510 head unit, also you can buy an CarPlay/Android auto dongel

the steering buttons are working fine.
Als je can can get an dab/front rear camera or tpms sensor is you want.

Thanks for the recommendation. I actually looked at the Xtron and it seemed really good. In the end though I wanted as close to OEM as possible so ordered the RCD330.
