Nearly new - can't decide

Hi all

Can't get a new Roc ANYWHERE... it seems like even showroom floors are empty.
So - after much looking around, have come up with 2 options - both 2.0 TSI with DSG and Leather.
1 - 4000mls on clock, Red, 09 plates
2 - 7500mls on clock, also has SatNav, Grey, 09 plates

1 is newer than 2, with lower mileage. 2 has more in it. 2 only marginally more expensive than 1.

Any wisdom?
Is 7000mls already quite high mileage? Does the extra 3000-4000 make up for the SatNav?

Help...

Thanks

Note that the Red is solid, and Grey is metallic, so (new) automatically that's an extra few hundred. As for newer/older, they're both 2009/09, so come resale time in a couple of years+ time, it will make no difference. I'm fairly sure also if you intend to do a good 30k+ miles, the extra 3k miles will have insignifcant effect on resale too.
Personally I'd get the grey one with the satnav. But then again, that's exactly what I ordered! (And drive around in) :D

Satnav is a £1500 option so if that's the price difference then it all boils down to whether you want/need it and which colour you prefer. The grey is a £300 premium metallic.

If you don't do many miles then you'll even it out in a year or so. If you do tons it'll be fairly negligible in the overall total. 3k difference isn't really much at all.

If only one has parking sensors that is well worth considering.

If there was only a grand in the price, I'd have the satnav one. If it was more than that I think I'd take the red.

the grey is so dull, the red is actually quite nice, so go with the red, and get a tomtom.

Great replies. Thanks!
The difference in price is only £450!! Neither has parking sensors.
So - I get Metallic Paint AND Sat Nav for a mere £450 - but... an extra 3000 to 4000 miles.
As you have all pointed out - in three years time, that extra 4000 miles will probably be little.

I like both the Grey and the Red. So - at the moment, depending on how easy it is to actually see and drive the car, as it is far away - I'm leaning towards Pewter Grey. It seems much better value.

Does the SatNav give you safety camera and Traffic? Just out of interest.

Thanks again.

I find the red dull - it's lifeless compared to a brighter red such as "Tornado Red" you can get on the Golf. I used to have a Tornado Red Golf and it looked great, can't get away with it on a Scirocco though - White is by far the best non-metallic choice.

Pewter Grey isn't grey at all - it's more of an icy blue.

To be honest, I think integrated Sat-Navs are a rip off - why does an integrated satnav cost 6 times more than a good add on unit? Can't fathom that one! The car manufacturers seem to be having a laugh when they add in the price of satnav.

In your case, you'd be getting a lot for your £450 - go for Grey. I think the Red will be nowhere near as popular a colour and in a few years time the resale value will suffer. 3000 miles is negligible over the 3 or 4 years you might plan to keep it - every thousand miles over average will probably only knock £30 off the value of your car when it's 3 years old.

The only people that seem to agree Red is a great colour on the Scirocco are those that bought a red one (are they too tight to buy metallic, couldn't they find a white one, or do they like the red THAT much?). *just waiting for all the red owners to pile in and say grey is a crap colour....*

The Scirocco is such a colour sensitive car, I just don't think it looks good in red or any of the darkest colours (where it hides the shape of the car).

I think the grey will be easier to sell and it seems better value.

If it was me i wouldn't hesitate with that price difference

I'd take the Pewter with Sat Nav no question

To answer your question on the Sat Nav, it does have real time traffic info but not speed cameras

You can add Speed cameras as POI if you don't mind a bit of tinkering about to make an ISO of the DVD,
Here is an excellent post I found on a Golf forum which explains how to do it,

Spanner in the works.
I called the chap who owns the red one and said -
"NO, I've found better value for money, I can get same car, WITH metallic, WITH Satnav and it is on'y 450 cheaper"
He said:
"Oh, but the Red one DOES have SatNav... AND Parking Sensors!"
What the.......

Anyway - so, after actually settling myself into the getting a Grey one which was great value for money - I'm now back to square one.
It now seems that IF the Red has all the same kit and the Grey, but has 4000miles on the clock instead of 7000k... I may be going for the RED!

And I thought things were going to be simple....

This may boil down to colour preference and p/x offered.

If the red one does have satnav and sensors and is lower mileage then get the red one.

Phone up the seller of the grey one to find out if that's got more kit than advertised too - you never know!

Otherwise, go for the red one so long as it's a proper satnav (not a tomtom!), since parking sensors are handy and you don't mind the colour... Though as others have said, I'd much prefer the metallic red which isn't available!

Glasses guide indicates a £500 difference between a 2.0TSi GT DSG with 4000miles and the same with 8000miles. £21.5k and £21k respectively.

More people on this forum have salsa red than pewter grey (8% v 7%) which would indicate it may be more popular come resale time. And it has parking sensors........

Not a lot in it, really, is there?

I've really appreciated everyone's input. I hope to be "one of you" soon.

I think it's going to be the red, because after a little haggling, I've managed to get some knocked off, making it by far the best value. Interesting turn around...
If all goes well with finance, etc... should have it next week. YEAH!
