Dynaudio spare wheel sub retrofit + alpine alternatives

Hi all,
To my surprise after looking at my spare wheel for the first time since I bought the car (even then was a quick glance), I found out pre-facelift models with Dynaudio ship with no spare wheel sub. I'd like to install one but have a few questions if anybody has been down the same route.
From my limited research, it's possible to retrofit one but you need the Dynaudio sub and amp from a face lift Scirocco only, and cannot be from any other model. Can anybody confirm this?
If the above is true, it seems it would be a bit of a hassle, so other alternatives exists including an Alpine model that's designed specifically for the mk6 Golf. https://www.raysmith.co.uk/alpine-vw-go ... -spc-600g7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Wondered if anybody has had any luck with 3rd party wheel well subs, and how they connect etc.
Cheers
