Buying a used Scirocco - CAVD vs CTHD engines

Hello!
I'm looking to buy a used 160ps Scirocco and the whole deal with the engines is super confusing, some say that only the early models were affected (2010 and up should be good ???) some say to stay away from the 160ps version all together unless it's an EA211...
I hope someone can shed some light on this? From my research I know that I should absolutely avoid the 1.4 CAVD engine due to the pistions cracking, and just overall many many problems... But then there's the CTHD engine, which supposedly has better internals and many problems aren't a thing anymore? Sadly I just simply can barely find any info about it, on many lists of Scirocco engine codes it's nowhere to be found, and if it is there's not much to read about it.
Hopefully some of you can help! I wanted a Scirocco for a long time so I really want to buy the right one! I Don't want a massive headache down the line... I'd also appreciate any suggestions of what I should look out for in these cars!

I own a 2009 1.4 160 and it's on 120000 miles and it's only needed to have the gearbox rebuilt. The engine has been rock solid.

If you have the possibility (market and money-wise) to buy a CTHD engine, please buy a CTHD engine, there is no reason under the sun to buy the CAVD unless you enjoy replacing piston rings, timing chain, injectors, DV, coil packs, spark plugs and probably many more I can't remember right now just to get a reliable car. Worst case scenario get a 2012+ one.
I really don't mean to be rude but please ignore the above comment and do some research yourself, you can start with:

Yea I did quite a bit of research and I wouldn't buy a 160ps CAVD for sure. Maybe the single turbo CAXA version...
The thing is that I'm wondering how much better the CTHD is, since I exactly don't want to burn a hole in my wallet... I have a few CTHD roccos available to check out, but the article you linked kinda shows how the entire EA111 platform is flawed, and I'm worried the CTHD version is still kinda uncertain... I would buy an EA211 rocco but they are a bit above my price range, at worst I could loan some money for one :/
I have an especially nice r-line 160ps CTHD rocco in my sights with low mileage, but daaaaamn I'm honestly scared to make a choice.
This is my attainable dream car so I really want to get the right one that will last me a long time!

The CTHDs are fine as far as I know, they don't have any of the problems that CAVD has.
Hey, if it's your dream, go for it, reliability wise, you really should be covered
Or you can always postpone your purchase for a couple of months and go for 2.0 TSI
1.4 TSI ( 160 Hp. )

I'm also looking to buy a ( 2012-2015 ) 1.4 TSI ( 160 Hp. ) with manual gearbox.
What is the difference between CAVD and CTHD engines
?

I got to say I own a roc fitted with CTHD engine and never experienced anything catastrophic. 2014 model year; car has 60000 km on the clock and running on Revo Stage 1 software since 2015 and never had any isssues with oil levels so looks pretty reliable to me. I don't know if something in my routine makes it this way but I can tell you this much:
1. I regularly change the oil every 8000 km / 1 year
2. I use recommended spark plugs from Revo (bkr7eix) and change them every 15000 km
3. Never go beyond 3000 rev before engine hits 85 degree or even higher
4. And give it a good run now and then to burn carbon deposits
May be it is the key to keep the engine healty, may be it is reliable in the first place or may be It will blow up tomorrow I dunno
It is 7 years old after all
