Car battery

Hi,
Last week I drove my car after about 2 weeks of no use. It was that cold outside the rain water on my car was frozen and the boot wouldn't open. As it was cold and my no usage I had to jump the car. My problem is every time I go to drive it I have to jump it. I cam go shopping come out of the shop and have to jump it again. My theory is because of my lack of use with the car the altonater cant charge the dead batter. The jump is proving amps needed to start it but not maintain the charge. And because its cold the battery needs more amps to starts. Has this happened to anyone before? Do I need a new battery even though it was working fine before I stopped driving it. Or do I need to charge it with a separate car battery charger?
