Picked it up a week on Thursday ago. Was desperate to buy a new car as my trusty Volvo was due an MOT during my trip down to London. Fearing a fail, I bought this the night before

Fully loaded, it didn't skip a beat. Fantastic car, which also landed me here

To do list:

Give it a full service - All oils and filters.
Replace Windscreen.
Replace off-side fog lamp.
All four VW center caps.
Machine polish.

That's it. Everything else works a treat

How much is it to replace the windscreen? I have two little points on the right side (my car is LHD) but can't be bothered tbh

Have you got much paperwork on previous ownership? It seems to have quite an erratic MOT history, in terms of dates and mileage. A steady 6,000-ish per year in the first few years, then a couple of years where it clocked up 22,000 and 24,000 within two consecutive 18-month periods, during which it must've been off the road for 6 months or being driven without an MOT. I wonder what the story is there... Not that it really matters - it's clearly been looked after!

The gap in the MOT is probably down to the car sitting on a garage forecourt after being traded in and given a fresh MOT when sold. The change of annual mileage could be down to the owner changing jobs or different owners doing different mileages.

He's probably going to replace it through his insurance, so he will only have to pay the glass excess which is typically GBP 75.00.

Agree, the history does seem a little erratic and the lack of a service book does knock a bit of confidence. However, the car itself does drive exceptionally well and being completely stock, I doubt it's had a hard life. No knocks or scrapes to be seen anywhere - Just a cracked screen and a broken fog lamp.

On a plus side, the previous owner did some digging around and managed to find some service paper work done by VW in its early years.

With the price I payed, I'm still very happy with it


As for a windscreen quote. Not had one yet, but a buddy of mine had a quote to replace the one on his E39 M5 and it was just short of £200. With similar sensors, I'd expect the same.
