Suspension Level Sensors?
Suspension Level Sensors?
Hi,
I have a fault with the two front level sensors, one damaged and the other with an electrical issue; the latter causing a flashing light in the car that alerted me to the issue
Not cheap to fix; been quoted just over £400 supplied and fitted
I have been advised that it is not an MOT failure, or safety issue to leave them broken, but other then the obvious based on the name, can anyone tell me what they actually do in the car and why they are even there?
I get it for cars and things like 4x4's that have some sort of air-ride, or height adjustment on the suspension, but i've no idea why I have them on the Scirocco
Thanks in advance,
Stephen

Re: Suspension Level Sensors?
As far as I'm aware there are only 2 level sensors on the Scirocco. One on the near side front and one on the nearside rear. They are used for the auto-levelling function, if the car is fitted with Xenons and they are used for the dynamic chassis control (DCC), which controls the damping in the corresponding comfort / normal / sport mode. Have a read of the following link for more information;

Part numbers for each sensor are on this link;

Re: Suspension Level Sensors?
Left and right front sensors are parts ... 3C0412521B and 3C0412522B ... so it looks like there are two on the front
Further questions worth asking ...
1. Does anyone know how difficult these things are to change?
2. Is there any calibration required once changed?

Re: Suspension Level Sensors?
OK, so I don't have Xenons and I get there there is the DCC component, but surely as this is only stiffening of the shocks and not height adjusting, then the suspension level doesn't change?Cuprabob wrote:They are used for the auto-levelling function, if the car is fitted with Xenons and they are used for the dynamic chassis control (DCC), which controls the damping in the corresponding comfort / normal / sport mode.
Re: Suspension Level Sensors?
I snapped both level sensors when taking the shocks out (yes Both)
Mechanic replaced them, I can t remember if he charged me but it wasn't much at all. definitely not in the hundreds.
Its a bit of plastic that fits onto a pivot ball. thats pretty much it

Re: Suspension Level Sensors?
There is a headlight level sensor and that is fairly cheap at like £30, but the price I found online for the suspension sensors was £120ish eachParadox1 wrote:I snapped both level sensors when taking the shocks out (yes Both)

From the picture of the part, it doesn't look like it would be difficult to fit, but I don't know if there is any calibration required after fitting
Re: Suspension Level Sensors?
The only sensors I saw on the suspension shocks when removing mine was the DCC plug( yes i broke that too )
If its the plug that is broken, its less than a 10er for the part and 10mins of your time to fix

Offcially, yes callibration is required. In practice I've not noticed any ill effects by not doing it.fernsie wrote: 2. Is there any calibration required once changed?
The procedure for performing the calibration with a VCDS/VAGCOM cable is here: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... lectronics

I too the same problem as the OP. Flashing light on the sport/comfort button.
Garage says that both sensors are faulty, one snapped one seized. they said they can do them but for around £400/500 and it may be worth while looking for seconds hand parts instead.
Are we sure that the part numbers quoted above are the correct parts, as when I Google the number it comes back with headlight adjustment?
Thanks in advance

The sensors are also used for auto levelling on cars with Xenon headlights.Aturner1986 wrote:Hi I'm new here (first post)fernsie wrote:Left and right front sensors are parts ... 3C0412521B and 3C0412522B ... so it looks like there are two on the front

Re: Suspension Level Sensors?
Yeah the the right parts you can find them on ebay for about £24 second hand. I had to replace mine as i snapped it replacing the suspension. Super easy job. Just lift the car up remove the wheel and remove 2 screws on either side of the sensor and replace itAturner1986 wrote:Hi I'm new here (first post)fernsie wrote:Left and right front sensors are parts ... 3C0412521B and 3C0412522B ... so it looks like there are two on the front

Re: Suspension Level Sensors?
Hi all,
Can someone help me with ascertaining the correct Part Code for the rear level sensor on this one please?
Thanks
Geoff

Re: Suspension Level Sensors?
Useful thread, thanks guys.
Seems the green connector on 3C0941307A has snapped where it meets the pole on my 09 2.0 TSi.
Looks as though someone has done a previous repair on it, without fitting a new part.
Does anyone have any recommendations on where to source the part? VW are quoting £130 plus Vat and TPS are at £152 delivered.
Thanks

Thats the cheapest option but it'll work just the same

Re: Suspension Level Sensors?
Thanks for the link.
Sorry, should have said it’s the rear sensor, not the front.
From what I can see on various pictures, don’t think the green bar that is broken can be separated from the unit. Otherwise I would have had a go at stripping that and using it to repair the part.
