Acceleration hesitation at 2500-3500 reps

What I mean is, if I floor it at say 2k rpm, anywhere between 2500 and 3500 reps the car won't accelerate anymore (the revs won't move or move very slowly) for anywhere between 0.5s - 2s and then go normally.
It happened to me twice 2 months ago, after restarting the engine everything was fine until today (didn't try to restart the engine).
It happens say once every 3-4-5 accelerations at that rev range.
Otherwise the car pulls normally, no ECU fault codes, no check engine light, my compression is perfect, didn't check for smoke but I doubt there is any.
Is there any chance is nothing mechanically wrong with the car (e.g piston, turbo etc) but some wire/sensor whatever is acting up?
Are there any usual suspects for the 1.4 TSI CAVD with this issue? Is it a common fault?
