Identifying a head-unit and what you can or cant do with it

Hi, basically as the title i'm trying to identify my head-unit and whether it can be updated to a newer firmware or have maps on it, mine doesn't have a nav button on so i'm guessing it doesn't have navigation which I can live without as i'll use my phone, but I wouldn't mind updating the firmware on the unit itself.

I've had a google and a search around and its a bit confusing to be fair, i've tried holding the settings button for 20 seconds and all that does is flick onto AM or FM radio selection, I initially thought I had a RCD 510 but I could be wrong?

And its a 2009 GT 170 by the way

It is an RCD510 so it doesn't have nav functionality but does have an integrated 6CD changer. As it has the "TIM" button it is not the DAB version.

I have that one. The firmware in radio can't be updated but the mdi interface can be, to improve the range of hard disks/memory cards it can accept. And possibly access speed and sizes.

risingson - you can only use the sd cards for music is that correct?
I've put all my music on a USB so i'm ok in that sense

Depends what you mean by the question - you can't put videos on either SD card or Mdi interface, but you can put music on both. I have a 150Gb solid state USB drive in the centre console at present
