Removing emissions update

Does anybody know whether it is possible to remove the emissions update?

I've heard some mention that a remap will remove it, if so which maps have people gone with?

Reason I ask is I've been hearing nothing but negative things about it lately , reliability issues, being underpowered and fuel economy drastically reduced. Fortunately I've only experienced the latter. Although I'm unsure about performance, feels about right to me.
