I’m on holiday just south of Edinburgh and my emissions light has come on permanently

It doesn’t reset after removing the key and waiting (had food) then restarting

Nothing other than the light coming on saying that there is a problem, drives as normal. If the light wasn’t on you’d not know there was a fault

Any locals with tips on which garage, preferably an indie vw one to use for code reading and fault finding

Just drive it. Either way you'll end up getting recovered home if there is a problem.

Found a decent local garage, scanned for under £30

It’s the Inlet manifold issue, no other error codes

Cleared the code and so far so good

Will get it looked at back home as I’ll be covering plenty of miles over Xmas visiting family

Just been to my local indie vw garage, just under £600 for a complete inlet manifold and 3 hrs labour

Does that sound about right price wise?

They tell me you can’t just replace the sensor it’s a complete manifold, is that true?

Yes, I believe that's correct if it's the runner flaps. If you do a search you will find it's a very common issue and some people have managed to get "goodwill" from VW to replace it.

They finally made a revised part for the intake manifold with a new design for the actuator arm and a different position sensor.
Part number: 06J133201BH
So ask VW if you get this part and not the old version.

I doubt vw will give goodwill in this case, the car is a 2012 year model & I am not the original owner, although it’s only done 58500 miles

The revised part code will be passed into my local independent vw garage so I get a better part. I presume that is the part code for the 2.0tsi GT (ea 888?) engine?

Is this common in the 2.0tdi? My manifold has a rattling noise coming from it just recently. It also fire a code at me which is the accelerator position sensor P2138.

For the record. A 2010 2.0ltr tdi inlet manifold from VW is £470.
Ebay it is then

Bloody hell, you can get a flap delete kit for £80.

Normal price. They did the same for me 2 years ago for same price and they said they`d half the labour!!

Parts are normally guaranteed by them so if they did fail again I`m sure it would be fine

I’m currentky experiencing the same issue. VW are quoting almost £1000 to fix this and having previously had the clutch release bearing fault 2 years ago priced at £1200 to repair, both being known defect parts and not due to wear and tear it’s safe to say I’m not happy one bit. I understand cars will break and need parts replacing but these are known as defect parts and on a car like this we shouldn’t have to be forking out a grand every year or two to fix faulty parts.

I’m considering looking into taking this further and approaching the motor Ombudsman to bring a case against VW on it. I know a few others on this forum are currently experiencing this issue so if any of you want to join forces with me to bring a group case to the Ombudsman then do let me know.

You can stop using VW dealers for a start. They charge over double the equivalent garage.

Yeah they charge crazy prices however I've found if you stick with them and keep pushing for help you can get it providing you remain loyal to them and keep the car serviced with them. I managed to get the Inlet Manifold rectified by them for £432. It took a lot of patience and I still feel like you shouldn't have to pay for a known faulty part but I think this is the best deal I could see around both at main dealers and independent.
