ENGINE FAULT (Flashing Glowplug light)

Hi guys, long story short
While driving normally down a country road, the glow plug light started flashing, and the engine light was solid,

Got the car scanned at a VW specialist this afternoon and they've said it's the EGR valve,

Firstly the guy said to check with VW if it's under recall for anything, he also said that they've asked cars to come in for emissions tests and "secretly" changing EGR valves, I'm not sure how true that is but it's what he said,

A friend has said to just to an EGR delete, is it that simple or is it best to replace it (has anyone had this fine, what was the cost?)

Thanks guys

If your car has had the "emissions update" VW have what they are calling "Building Trust Measure" warranting a number of parts for 2 years after the update. The EGR valve is one of the parts included in the warranty. I assume this is what your mechanic is referring to. More details can be found on the VW website.

Thanks for your reply, the car is fairly new (to me) how can I check if the emissions update has been done?

EDIT: Just read through the papers I got with the car and it says that the emissions check has been done, so the car should still be under the 2 year warranty?

Easiest way is to give your local VW dealer a call or call VW Customer Services.

You can put your details into the VW website but I'm not sure if it just tells you whether it's an affected model or actually tells you if the recall has been done or not on your specific car.
