Hi all. Newbie here.. just about to sell my Alfa mito and get a Scirocco.
Looking at two models the 2.0 TSI and the 2.0TDI 170bhp version. Probably looking at 2012 onwards, any advice as to the best one to go for, I am looking for one with decent performance, is there much difference between these two models?

It really depends on what types of journey and how many miles you are doing. Low miles, short journeys buy the petrol. Higher mileage, longer journeys are more suited to the diesel.

Petrol is a chain driven engine, diesel has a cambelt which should be changed at 5 years, so if you're looking at a 2012 car, that's this year.

Second what Cuprabob has said.

Also depends on how much exhaust and engine noise matters to you, ofcourse the petrol is going to win in that department.

I have the 2013 177bhp TDI and only went diesel because of being unable to afford insurance on the petrol version being 18. However, the power and torque of the car surprised me and a remap of up to 60bhp is possible but best to go with around 30 to stay on the safe side. MPG is not bad either I average around 45 but driving economically can easily get 60+.

I have the R line which is a nice package that doesn't come too costly compared to standard models in the used market.

DSG or manual is obviously a personal preference, I went with the DSG after having two manual cars previously and do not regret it.

Hi. Check out the for sale section - my mapped 2012 170 is available and, as per Cuprabob's comment, I've just had the cambelt changed. A whole year's mot, new tyres, full service history, one owner. It could be yours :)
