Title, I'm looking to get this 2.0 tfsi 200hp scriocco from 2008 with only 70k km's for around 9-10k€
Any know problems? Like for example the 2009-2011 1.4tsi's have piston problems (was looking to get that at first).

Camchain tensioner can fail on these. Many owners have replaced with the updated part. Plenty of info on the forum if you have a search.

To be honest, I have never heard of this issue affecting the Scirocco, there have been some failures on the Golf (as mentioned above), but it is not an issue lose sleep over."

Yes this one does crop up now and again, it is I believe very rare to have one of these go, you would be extremely unlucky. As ever with forums, as soon as you hear about a fault, everyone thinks it is a major problem but in reality 99% of owners will never encounter this issue.

That is of course true but if you are unlucky enough to be in the 1% it can be painful. You pays your money you takes your chance.

Indeed Bob, I know the Golf GTI forum bring this one up and initially I thought it was an issue that only affected it, but I remember you said at the time, as there are more Golfs, the problem was bought up there first.

Sorry to hear that. I had a MK5 R32 that I bought new back in 2006 which after 4 years and 64k miles suddenly started losing coolant. Turned out to be a porous block, which VW had knew about and released a TPI to dealers warning them about it. The solution was a new engine, which VW picked up the tab for thanks to pressure from my dealer and Mondial Extended Warranty. I was told it was extremely rare, which in fact it is, but if you are one of the unlucky ones the rarity is irrelevant.

VW have produced a 'kit' that is cheaper than buying individual parts that consists of tensioner, new stronger chain, chain guides, new chain sprockets and chain cover. The total with labour is about £1000. The kit was produced so that the new stronger chain could be fitted as chain stretch on high mileage cars is a known issue and in the USA the warranty for drive train is a mandatory 5 years.

that kit doesn't include and chains. You can pick all of that up from TPS for less than £200
