while checking under the bonnet for oil levels and such i noticed a black bag with what feels like a sponge inside. Its situated in the wing opposite the front light cluster. have given it a tug but wont shift . theres one in other wing in same place. Is it just transport packing ? Any ideas anyone , something tells me i`m going to feel like a horses backside .

They are foam blocks designed to reduce panel noise - don't remove them.
The black bag around them is to stop them absorbing water (like a sponge).

The MK5 Golf and some Passats had them, without the bag, and they caused the front wings to rust from the inside out as the sponge absorbed moisture. It kept VW's warranty people busy until the emissions issue came along:-)

Many thanks guys, my good lady seemed to think it might be a drug shipment from the factory and we would be having visitors in the night ( very active imagination ) .

Is it normal to have one in the wing on the drivers side but not the passenger side?!
